Description: We booked GR Solaris through RCI. It was a very nice hotel. The bed wasn’t as bad as the reviews I read. We had a beautiful view of the pool and the ocean. They give you plenty of pillows. Just ask if you don’t have it. They have a small refrigerator that they refill with soda and "Sol" beer. If you want different soda just ask. I don't know why people put in bad reviews about this hotel. The staff was wonderful and friendly. Jonathon who is one of the Pool Entertainment Staff is very nice and has a good voice during the Karaoke. The food was excellent. The breakfast and lunches were a little different everyday. Yes the Oatmeal was great. Even at the Pool Lunch area was a little different every day. Dinners at the buffet in the theater area, Rosmarinus, Café Solaris and Marco Polo were great. Marco Polo you have to make reservations and men have to wear pants and shoes. My husband wore those closed in sandals with socks. We have been to other All-inclusive Hotels and GR Solaris rates pretty high. They have premium brands of Bourbon and Vodka. They have all kinds of great drinks or you can make up one for them to make. We loved Midori Mango. We spent a lot of time around the swim up bar. Some of the great bartenders were William and Juan Carlos. Some of the staff would even remember your name. The bartenders and waiters would know what you drink after just a couple of times. The whole staff was so friendly. They have games all day long and really do a good job of entertaining you. The staff seems to really care to make sure you are having a good time. They also have an adults only pool and another pool that doesn't have a swim up bar. I read before on people complaining about not getting a lounge chair. Don’t know what they are talking about. We got a table with 6 chairs(we were there with 2 other couples) every day. The staff even comes down to the beach to see if anyone needs a drink. Esperanza was good at taking care of you with drinks. She was all around. We were even playing cards up by Café Solaris and Esperanza even came by to bring our drinks. I had also read people complaining about the beach. Don't know why they wrote that either. It’s not that small of a beach area but there are lounge chairs all along. The ocean is wonderful. Our last day there the waves were calmer. Yes there are rocks but they are not all over at all. You can go Parasailing and jet skiing right next to the hotel. You can go to different clubs with the entertainment crew every night but we enjoyed the bar and the music and of course free drinks.
It was our friend’s birthday while we were there and without us asking them, they made a reservations at Marco Polo for us and had a beautiful birthday cake and sang to her and also gave her a shot of tequila. They really made her feel special! Even at the pool and at the bar they sang to her!
We tipped from the start. We brought 100 1.00 bills and tipped the maid and the
waiters a couple of dollars everyday. They work very hard long hours and deserved it.
Make sure you make arrangements for the transportation to the hotel. The ride is free to the hotel but you have to pay to return to the Airport. $8.00 a person. Bring the email confirmation that they send you. After you get your luggage don’t talk to anyone until you get outside and see the people from GR Solaris. Unless you want to go see a Timeshare presentation you just tell them no that you know where you are going.
Don't always believe the weather report from the Internet. It said that it was going to have showers everyday. We had a little rain one evening. They didn't even bring in their BBQ grill because it stopped in a few minutes. It was beautiful everyday!
Make sure to go out to the front of the hotel around sunset. Beautiful sunsets!
Also in the afternoon they make liquor coffee drinks. You can have just coffee too. It’s a beautiful presentation on how they prepare the drinks. That is another thing about the food at this hotel. They do beautiful presentations on the food. The food again is wonderful at this hotel. Very much of a variety and even hot dogs and hamburgers at the buffet in the Theater area. The shows are beautiful. We went to everyone. The costumes are beautiful. The magic show on Friday is great too!
Try to make a trip to Chichen Itza, Tolum, Xcaret, Isla de Mujures. We brought one of those fans that spray water. Bring water too. We didn't go to Xcaret or Isla de Mujures this time(we did 3 years ago) we had to make a choice. If you go to Tolum you usually go to Xel Ha too. It's wonderful. Snorkeling, floating on a river, food and drinks, included. If you can buy biodegradable before you go. If you can get it before you go to Cancun I’m sure it’s cheaper. Xel Ha is beautiful. You don't have to wear the life jacket there. This was our 3rd trip to Chichen Itza and our 2nd time to Tolum and the tour guides were wonderful. Raul and Nickolas. It was wonderful all over again. You can't climb the pyramid at Chichen Itza(we did 13 years ago) but it was still worth the trip. Xel Ha has so much improved. There is so much you can do there it would take all day. You have about 4hrs when you combine it with Tolum. You can go there all day if you want in another package. Same with Xcaret we heard it was a wonderful experience too.
We would definitely go back to GR Solaris. The reason why we picked this one is because it was all-inclusive. The only way to go and reasonably priced! One last note there wasn't a real push on timeshare there as compared to others. We already have another timeshare or we might have considered this one or package that they offered.
