Description: What's interesting about Cancun is that if you look online, the choices of places to stay are VERY overwhelming. I tend to have the same sort of "search" criteria when looking for a place to stay. That criteria includes an ultra-modern setting with trendy, spacious suites. After doing some searches, it didn't take me long to find the ME Melia Cancun.
The usual travel sites (Travelocity, Expedia, and Orbitz) all had FANTASTIC reviews. In fact, most of the reviews had a rating of 5.0 out of 5.0. It was pretty hard to believe until I arrived and stepped just inside the front door to the lobby. More on this in a second.
Just so I cover it, I flew on Continental from Houston-Intercontinental nonstop to Cancun (which is just over a two hour flight). It was EXTREMELY easy.
Once I landed in Cancun and made it through customs, I had pre-arranged a private car to take me from the airport to the hotel zone in Cancun. I used Cancun Shuttle which was suggested on the Cancun airport website. You can arrange transport using this highly rated service but going to the following website:

The driver was waiting right outside the doors from customs and immediately took me to the hotel (which was about a 25 minute drive from the airport). I opted for the round trip fare which came to about $68 USD. I also tipped the driver about 100 peso's (just under $10 USD).
Now, back to the hotel info...
When I stepped out of the cab and walked just inside the door of the ME Melia, I immediately remembered a couple of the reviews I read where they mentioned the "smell". It was AMAZING!! I couldn't put my finger on the smell but it smelled so good and immediately put me into a relaxed state of mind.
As I walked into the hotel, I literally stopped and gasp at the breathtaking design. I could tell immediately that the ultra modern design was an understatement. And, I knew that I would spend a lot of time checking out every detail of the hotel once I checked in.
I walked up to the registration desk and had excellent service. My reservation was in order. It is noteworthy to mention that I had booked a package deal on Expedia. I booked "The Level" category of suite which is considered their "VIP" level accomodations (more on the suite as we move through this review). Expedia offered a wonderful package deal from Houston. With the upgraded "The Level Ocean View" suite and flight, I paid $1700. It was a rather last minute package so the flight portion of the deal was around $500 (a little higher than if I had booked a few weeks in advance). So, the suite ran just over $200 a night. After running a query on the ME website directly, they were charging about $305 a night for the same category of suite. So overall, I got a really great deal. Everything was prepaid but of course the front desk required a credit card for incidentals. Just before they finished the check-in process, out came a rather large glass of champagne. As I walked away from the front desk, I asked about the incredible smell. The beautiful front desk staff said it was some sort of melon and rosemary. Amazing!!!
When I got to my suite I LITERALLY was taken back by the beautiful furniture, layout, and pretty much every detail. Plus, the suite itself had a different smell...extremely clean and every single item was in order. I had a huge amount of storage, a beautiful sitting area, small eating area, a king sized bed and several windows that opened overlooking the ocean. The shower was a huge stall and as I read in other reviews was one of the best features of the suite. It had a HUGE round showerhead on the ceiling of the shower stall that put out a large amount of water and just felt great!
The pool/beach area was breathtaking. You could rent Bali beds (with or without tops). I rented one each day, the first without a top (to sun myself) and the second time with a roof so I could relax without getting too much sun. Many water features and bars around the pools. LITERALLY an experience in and of itself.
A couple of the reviews I read said you could check-in to the ME Melia and spend the entire vacation there without leaving. Believe me, it's true!! I have traveled all over the world and have stayed in many, many lovely hotels. The ME Melia is now my #1 top hotel I've ever stayed in throughout the years. I can't WAIT to go back. I already know I'll be spending some long weekends here and it will be my new home away from home. My partner wasn't with me on this trip but I can't wait to come back here with him because it's a very romantic setting and something we have to experience together sometime soon. Email me if you have any other questions about the hotel.
