- Even though my little visit to the Santa Monica area of California was at Christmas time - you only really knew this at night when the promenade came alive with Christmas lights and holiday performances.

- Possibly some of the best sight seeing and touring you can do cheaply in LA - this is one of my favourite parts of the city. Right on the edge of the mountains, yet with plenty of 'Hollywood' around, this is a great trip for anyone going to LA.

- My third visit to LA was a bit longer than the previous ones; exploring the metro system looked as a good method for discovering new destinations in the area. Long Beach appeared in the metro destinations list and soon I was in a train leading there.

- San Jose, CA was the location for this year's US Youth Soccer's Workshop. Five days of educational seminars, networking opportunities and soccer! Not much time for local attractions so this mostly covers dining options near the convention center.

- We rented a 4x4 and took a day trip from Las Vegas to Death Valley. It was like being on another planet, and I recommend it to anyone traveling in the winter months (to avoid the oppressive heat in the summer)
