Cottages Not Great

  • August 18, 2008
  • Rated 1 of 5 by B Farrar from Newmarket, Ontario
We were told that the cottages were the same as the cabins, except with drywall inside. Not at all! The cottages were over 20 years old, smelled musty and moldy (and showed their age in decor), the couch set looked and felt like it was picked up at the salvation army (as a Bluegreen resort, we were told the furniture was changed every 3-5 years, this was not the case in the cottage). The carpets were filthy (you could not walk from the washroom to your bed without your feet being black) etc, etc.

The kids activity programs were great. The resort and area has a lot to offer in activities.

JUST NOT THE COTTAGE FOR LIVING ACCOMMODATIONS.

Christmas Mountain Village

Best Things Nearby:
The best places nearby for toddlers would be the Mid-Continent Railway museum, Storybook Gardens and Timbavati Wildlife Park, and the Wisconsin Deer Farm.

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort has lots of activities planned to interest young children and anyone who likes to do small crafts. Everyday there is also an ice cream social where you can build quite a large ice cream sundae or banana split for $3 or less. We didn't take advantage of it, but there was a mini golf course and place to get paddleboats on-site as well. As for the accommodations, the cabins are small, but the privacy is nice. The children's indoor pool (zero entry) has a slide, seesaw, infant bouncers, and two animals that squirt water. Of course our daughter just enjoyed the small water fountains.

Resort Experience:
The campus is very spread out so unless you are fortunate to be near the registration where the indoor pool is located, or near the clubhouse that houses the activities, you'll need the car even at the resort. There are a variety of housing options. We had a cabin with two bedrooms which was only 650 square feet, but I preferred that over the townhouse style where you can hear the neighbors. My grandmother had a one bedroom and could hear the infant crying next door at 4am!

The staff is very friendly. The few suggestions we made to the resort on our comment card are as follows:

1) Put knives in higher drawer within kitchen.
2) Provide area map at check-in; shouldn't have to request one.
3) Do not have someone running an activity at the clubhouse and exchanging towels at the same time--kids became restless with candy bar bingo.

Overall we would consider going back to this resort, but would probably see if a different resort had an opening first to see which is better.

I like my unit, except it wasn't very soundproof, and the child in the attached unit woke me up several times, as well as the traffic noise was heard even with the doors and windows closed.

Best Things About the Resort:
Great golf courses!

Resort Experience:
It's very country, with the convenience of a town nearbhy. The area is beautiful and it was relaxing. You have everything you need right there, so you do not have to leave the resort. It's a little big to walk from one end to the other.

Indoor water parks everywhere!

Best Things About the Resort:
Activities, building a fire each night, Snow tubing, skiing, and golf.

Resort Experience:
We stayed in a two-bedroom villa. It was wonderful! There were twin beds in the downstairs bedroom with a TV, which was perfect for our children. They had a connecting bathroom with a shower. We had a kitchen with everything we needed, a dining room, living room with fireplace, a screened in deck area with a Jenn Air grill, and the Master Bedroom upstairs. Wow! It had a fireplace, a huge Jacuzzi with mirrors, skylights over the queen bed, and a bathroom with a shower. We also had a TV and there was a full-size washer and dryer. Tubing was open on weekends, so we went on Sunday. We had so much fun! The last day we were there we decided to take part in some of the activities. Our boys enjoyed it. We made sand art, tie-dye T-shirts, and my husband made a butterfly house. This was a joint effort; the boys helped glue it together, my husband stained it, and I painted flowers on it.
