I thought I was going to a great place because they told me that all the tourists like it there, but it was not what I expected. If you want bad service and tasteless food, this is the place.

I ordered a pizza, which was not good at all. They should try harder with the menu because the place is very nice and it has a good location. They also have a live band, so that's nice. They only have to change the chef and things would be much better.

Mama Mia lies just outside the Jardin. A very cozy brick courtyard with dining, numerous bars, and dancing are all within this inviting restaurant. Sanmiguelians state that if you haven't checked out Mama Mia, then you don't know San Miguel. Although it's listed as an Italian restaurant, it also has various local Mexican and American specialties. We dined here the first night we arrived in town, with a new friend we'd met on the bus ride to San Miguel from Mexico City. We started with fresh bread and an Italian bruschetta, which was simply delightful. I had the traditional bolognese, which was simple but quite impressive. We had a round of drinks--the margaritas were good but very strong. That particular Friday night, there were three live bands playing. The first was a fun, typical mariachi band. The second, Huapangos Toreros, was a refreshing trio made up of two Mexicans on acoustic guitars and a funky musical artist on bass from Chicago. They were great. We bought their CD and play it often to reminisce about our Mexican fiesta.

We came back Sunday morning for Mama Mia's brunch, which I highly recommend. They had many of the local Mexican favorites, fresh-squeezed juices (I think we sampled them all!), and great café Mexicana.

Mama Mia, we can't wait to come back!

**Mama's Bar--Live music, dancing, funk rock with Pila Seca on Fridays and Saturdays. Thursdays offers salsa dancing.

**Restaurante--International cuisine all day, Mexican buffet daily.

**Bar Leonardo's--Caters to younger people. Video/sports bar.

**Terraza Bar--Great food and drinks on the terrace. Beautiful sunsets.

**Patio Bar--Great beginnings. The "Best Bohemian Ambience."

People say that if you are in San Miguel and don't go to Mama Mia you are missing a very important part of your visit to SMA. Here you will find international food just a few steps from the "Jardín". Music is live usually with a Latin American group, but you might be surprised with other international music too. Carpaccio is one of my best picks here, for they specialize in Italian food.

There's a saying that "you haven't been to San Miguel until you've been to Mama Mia's". A favorite among locals and tourists alike, the main dining area is an open courtyard, lovely old trees strung with lights. Live local music some nights, everything from jazz to flamenco. The vegetarian lasagna is wonderful. As is everything else I've tried there. Has something for most anyone, with the laid back atmosphere of the main dining area, to the dance hall down stairs.
