If you are going to San Miguel de Allende, I highly recommend this B&B. It is on a small street (although currently under construction) about 4 blocks from the center square. There are only nine rooms and each one is named after a famous artist. I stayed in the Pablo Picasso room, which was large, luxurious, and equipped with Picasso prints and decor. I believe almost all the rooms have a terrace, with a small table and chair. It is very romantic - great for couples - but there were also families with teenage children staying there while i was there.
When you walk into the B&B, Luis, the manager will greet you and give you a tour of the premises. The lobby opens up into a beautiful garden courtyard and leads into the breakfast area. Small spiral staircases lead up to the various rooms. There is a TV room with US channels, internet access, magazines, and free calls to US and Canada. There is also a refrigerator where you can grab waters, sodas, and beers. Everything is on the honor system - simply tell Luis how many of each you had when you check out, and he will add it to your bill (at extremely reasonable prices!!).
At breakfast, which closes at 10:30am, is communal style. There is a big table that everyone sits at with coffee, granola, cereal, fruit and yogurt. The owner, Mary Calderoni, will have breakfast with the guests and tell them about the area, things to do, history, etc. She is very personable and is an artist in the area. You can also place an order for eggs, omelets, huevos rancheros, and anything type of hot breakfast food you may want.
I had a great experience and was so disappointed that i only spent one night in San Miguel de Allende and Casa Calderoni!
