Relax, explore, shop, roam, enjoy, and experience Mexican life. I soon learned that many come to San Miguel to retire, because of its cultural, scenic, and culinary offerings. As soon as we arrived at our resort, we set out on a walking adventure. One of the great things about San Miguel is that you can pretty much get around by foot. The city has cobblestone streets going in about every direction, with shops, restaurants, and galleries adorning every nook and cranny. Once we made our way into the town plaza, we indulged ourselves with a local favorite: a cup filled to overflowing with fresh corn shaved from the cob. The streetside chef then squeezed a fresh lime onto the corn, laulopp...Read More

Best Things Nearby:Pretty much everything is within walking distance from Posada. You must and I mean you must take at least a day trip to Guanajuato. (Check out my journal: Guanajuat: Home to Diego Rivera.) Best Things About the Resort:Since Posada is pretty much at the top of San Miguel, the resort offers its vacationers breathtaking, panoramic views. I spent many afternoons and early evenings on the tile porch just relaxing and admiring the multi-colored backdrop of San Miguel. The restaurant was great. We never found anyone at the resort who spoke English, but we survived. Everyone was very friendly and hospitable. It was at the restaurant at Posada that I discovered my n...Read More

Mama Mia

Restaurant

Mama Mia lies just outside the Jardin. A very cozy brick courtyard with dining, numerous bars, and dancing are all within this inviting restaurant. Sanmiguelians state that if you haven't checked out Mama Mia, then you don't know San Miguel. Although it's listed as an Italian restaurant, it also has various local Mexican and American specialties. We dined here the first night we arrived in town, with a new friend we'd met on the bus ride to San Miguel from Mexico City. We started with fresh bread and an Italian bruschetta, which was simply delightful. I had the traditional bolognese, which was simple but quite impressive. We had a round of drinks--the margaritas were good but very strong. That particu...Read More

Tio Lucas

Restaurant

We actually didn't eat a full dinner here. We ventured over to hear the live jazz and have some café and dessert--although the steaks I did see were enormous and succulent. The atmosphere is great! The music is typically jazz, although at times it can vary. When we return to San Miguel, I will be coming to Tio Lucas for a steak.

La Capilla

Restaurant

Quote:
We stumbled upon Capilla as we were exploring San Miguel. As we entered the restaurant, we all agreed we would be coming back to sample the cuisine. La Capilla is nestled against the Parroquia in the heart of San Miguel. From the rooftop terrace where we ended up dining, you have an unparalleled view of the cathedral, the mountains, and, on our particular night, a beautiful crescent moon hanging in the night sky. I started with pumpkin soup, which was presented elegantly and was only surpassed by its exquisite taste. Next, I moved on to a simple house salad, followed by a breast of chicken stuffed with goat cheese and covered with a Poblano sauce. We finished with crème brûlée. The presentation...Read More
