Still Breath Taking...

This is an attraction I have actually reviewed before on my first ever visit to Las Vegas, and though I almost never re-review something unless it has undergone some change or improvement to warrant doing so - in this case I couldn't justify writing an 'Italian Experience' in Las Vegas journal with out giving kudos to the fountain show.

It's also worth mentioning here that maybe an even better reason for my reviewing it once more here is that in all the changes that I have seen Las Vegas undergo since my first visit - and very few of them for the better in my opinion - this is one that still keeps it's awe and integrity and should be commended for doing so.

The fountain show at the Bellagio represented or me everything that was amazing about Las Vegas. Whenever I told the story about my crazy, penniless week spent in Sin City - I always finished the story with a reminiscent smile about the wonders of the fountains of Bellagio.

It's really hard to describe why there are so wonderful - when you get down to it it is just dancing water fountains to music.

But there is something grander about them than that - something beautiful and peaceful and thrilling all at the same time. I've seen adults moved more than I have ever seen watching them, and when I remembered Las Vegas - everything that was good about it could be summed up in the dusky desert evenings I stood watching the fountains.

It was something we ended up doing on quite a few occasions the first time, and after 6 years we found ourselves enjoying it over and over again this time round, too.

When we realized just how much Las Vegas and the atmosphere there had changed, I think we were both hesitant to watch the fountains again. It was such a profound and wonderful memory for us both that I think we were afraid it might be tarnished if it left us cold.

But we weren't the least disappointed - and if anything as we stood watching the first set of fountain shows in the lowering light of the evening, we realized gratefully that some bits of the Las Vegas magic were still alive.

If you have never seen the fountains at the Bellagio - then I can not recommend highly enough that you do so. Get there a little bit before each show if you can to get a good spot to watch - but it doesn't really matter anyway. There are plenty of places to stop and watch along the walk way on the strip - and even if you didn't plan to view it - if you are passing by and it's on, it's always worth the few minutes to stop and enjoy it.

And if you have seen it before and remember it fondly - well rest assured that it remains just as wonderful as it was, and is there to be seen again when next you visit.

You can see the fountains from any area around the Bellagio hotel, but the best places are the little round viewing areas cut into the pathways. The shows run every 1/2 hour from 3 pm - 8 pm on Monday - Friday, and they start at noon on holidays and weekends.
Best viewing is at dusk or after dark.

It's a very, very impressive display of music, dancing water, and lights and it's something that should not be missed on a trip to Las Vegas.
And best of all - it's still free.

Water that Will Move You

Water that Will Move You

My family and I just got back from a short trip to Vegas. Having children that we take with us when we go I have to plan for all the free things that are ok to take a young child to. As any one who has ever been to Vegas knows its no easy task.

Several years ago we took my daughter to the Belliagio fountains for the first time she was just a baby really. If I was to know the outcome of that one little visit to the fountains I may not have choose to take her there so willingly.

We chose the fountain show at Bellagio as it was free and there was no age restrictions to it. It was something that would be good for the whole family. My daughter instantly fell in love with it. We ended up standing there for 3 hours watching every show and every song that they used. Her favorite being This Kiss by Faith Hill.

Now 7 years later and my daughter is still wanting to go and watch the fountains at Bellagio its a constant when we visit. We may not know what we are gonna do but you can almost be sure that one of our days will be spent sitting out side of Bellagio watching there fountains and touring the conservatory.

They are the most wonderful thing really its such a basic show but its put together so well that you cant help but to enjoy it. What we really like the most is when the water is shot out of the jets so fast it makes a loud boom like a bomb going off. The water rises into the air at such a hight that it has actually been known to block the sun.

With our last visit being only a few days ago I was so sure we were gonna get off with not having to do the fountains needless to say I was very wrong. As our trip came to an end my daughter threw a fit and made it quite apparent that her trip to Vegas was not over till the Fountain shows were over. So we rushed right out to see the show to at least make one in our group very happy. They must have known she was coming as they played her favorite song making it all the more better for us as we did not have to sit through them all and wait for the one she loved the most.

This show runs beginning at 3pm till 12am providing the weather is cooperating. I have been in vegas when the wind is too strong and the fountains are going off needless to say that every one in a mile radius feels the water from the fountains when the wind is blowing making it a not enjoyable experience.

The cost of this experience is free it does not cost you one red cent. That is what makes it such a pleasure for us to take my daughter to see again and again even though we have seen it so many times we could probably do the dance our selves, but when the price is right you cant complain.

If you want a good spot to view the show I would recommend arriving a little early to get a good spot. The fact that this is a free show means that every one that is out for a good deal in Vegas is gonna be there to watch it with you. So get there early to get a good viewing place. I have watched it from every vantage point and there are really none that are better than any other. Each area has its own good view and you will not be dissapointed no matter where you view it at.

This is a great freebie while in Vegas and as a regular to the strip and the fun that is to be found there I would recommend this to every one that is thinking of making a trip to Vegas. Even if you have seen it once you can watch it again and it seems that its a new experience each time.

This was a great time for me and my family. Its something that my daughter loves to tell her friends about. She would rather sit and watch the fountains than a magic show any day.

Every Bit As Good As I Remembered

Every Bit As Good As I Remembered

The Bellagio is one of my favourite hotels - from the outside anyway. Don't get me wrong, it's very nice inside too, but whoever designed the exterior really knew what they were doing. The Strip has always felt a little unreal, but recently, with all the construction works going on, it's lost that a little bit. Some of the Old Style Vegas has gone and it's all being replaced by shiny new shops and hotels that don't have that old character that the Frontier style places used to have. Thankfully though, the Bellagio offers something of an oasis in the middle of all this.

The Hotel stands in relatively simple splendour above a sparkling, tree lined driveway and its own rather impressive lake. You can stroll along the edge, with a broad walkway for pedestrians and recessed alcoves to gather away from the milling foot traffic that is a constant presence on the Strip. The hotel pumps music all along this frontage and most of the time it just drifts past you, but every so often it will cut away to a different song and an array of fountains will emerge from beneath the dark waters of the lake. If this happens then do take the time to stop and enjoy the show. It is well worth it.

This is something that is definitely best appreciated after dark. The fountains are accompanied by a light show and the backdrop of the Strip and the hotel itself all lit up - which is when Vegas is at its best anyway - all adds an extra dimension to the show that you just don't get during the day. It truly is a breathtaking thing to watch, as Singing in the Rain plays from unseen speakers and this array of fountain jets swing and sway in time, shooting jets of glowing water 100 feet in the air.

The free shows in Vegas are unfortunately dwindling, along with a lot of the cheap accommodation and the cheap food, but this one should be here to stay. It plays every 15-30 minutes after dark and more infrequently during the day. Take the time to get there and wait for a song that you like to come on - some songs definitely work better than others, so if you're unimpressed by the first show you see hang around for the next one. Bring your camera, wrap up warm and enjoy the spectacle.

It doesn't matter what time of day or how close you are - they are amazing. When you can get close, you hear the music which adds another nice feature.

The fountains are a great sight to visit while you are in Vegas. The timing and music along with the lights make this a must see. You can watch from on the strip or from one of the walking bridges going over Las Vegas Blvd. The best view is from the strip however.
