We stayed here in July 08. We searched the web and read all the reviews. At first we were a little leary after reading a couple of the reviews. We went anyway and did not regret it at all. We had a wonderful time. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were great and clean. Food was fine. The only problem was the water out in front of the property. The hotel next door built a solid pier out into the water. This impedes the water flow and the water is not as clear as it should be. Other than that we loved the place.

I was somewhat concerned, but they proved to be unfounded. The personnel at the Melia were friendly and accomodating. Room service courteous and quick. The food at the buffet was excellent; breakfast, lunch and dinner. Indeed, you have to make reservations for the restaurants on the property, but that is the responsibility of the traveller. Food here was superb as well!
The only downside is the beach there; without an upcurrent jetty the water tends to be murky. But the hotel next to the Melia allowed us to visit and snorkel there. While we were there the weather was somewhat uncooperative but it allowed more time at the pool bar!
Overall, I would recommend the Melia. 4-1/2 stars!!

I did a lot of research on all the resorts in Cozumel to find the property that had the best beach. From the air, upon landing at the airport, I could tell many of the properties had no or very little beach. Melia had quite a bit of sandy beach that was private and did not see many outsiders. The food was not good and the drinks were watered down (unless you tip the bartender frequently.) The rooms were clean and the cleaning staff did a great job each day (even with towel animals just like a cruise). The main complaint we had were from the time-share push. From the time we checked in a lady greeted us as if she were there to show you where things were (ended up with a time share push), to the towel boys, to the "travel" concierge (don't be fooled into believing they are there to book excursions.) Even the front desk people rolled their eyes when I asked who in the lobby is time-share people so I could avoid them. We were approached several times a day for the first 3 days of our 5 day trip. For the price, if you are looking for a great outdoor beachy vacation, this is a good location.

This is my third stay at this resort and I cannot find anything wrong with it. This resort is so good! I unfortunately gained 4 pounds, but so worth it. The staff is so much fun and so friendly! They treat you like family here. I only wished the pool could have been a bit warmer. The rooms are so clean and comfortable. The activity employees all deserves raises. They work their butts off so everyone has a great great time. They made my vacation completey! They make everyone from little to old to feel so comfortable and make them have fun! I can't say enough about them. Thank you Charlie, Jaime, Norky and Denhi!! Thank you for making me have a blast on my vacation! Without you all, I wouldn't have and neither would so many others! You truly love your jobs and want everyone to have as much fun as you do! Signed, the Loudest Clapper, Jeanne

Myself and three others stayed Friday Feb27th - Wed March 4th. I would say that I was a little concerned about what some of the negative reviews, but now I wonder if they were at the same resort that we were at! The Melia is clean, and the staff is very friendly and I would recommend this place to anyone! As for the rooms, I was on the floor 12 in the tower, Deluxe ocean view, and the room was great. The other people we were with were on the 7th floor and there room was fine too. I talked with people that were in the garden view and no one said it was bad, just a garden view room. The food was fine. Breakfast great, lunch was almost a dinner, great selection, good quality. Dinner was fine, seafood night was tough for me because I am not big on seafood but I never went hungry that?s for sure. The pools and beach were very clean and the ocean was not black as someone had said in another review. I would tell anyone that is concerned, don?t be, you?ll enjoy the Melia. Some people are not happy unless there not happy, if you know what I mean. P.S. 7th time on the island and I have stayed at Playa Azul, Casa Mexicana, El Cozamelino and this hotel is one that I will visit again!
