Camelot by the Sea Hotel Brakes the Law

On April 14th, 2008, I reserved two condos at the Hotel Camelot by the Sea. We are celebrating my daughter?s 18th birthday on the 20th. Our nightmare at the Camelot began on the first evening of our stay. I was relaxing on the bed when I heard someone beating on my door at 1:30 am. I looked out the peep hole and there appeared to be a man in a uniform standing on the other side. My son and his friend were not in the room at the time and I felt uncomfortable opening the door to anyone I didn?t know. I got dressed and went downstairs to the front desk and asked if someone from the hotel had just been up to my room. The manager (Elizabeth) working that night was very rude and accused me of urinating off the balcony. Apparently, someone had complained that they had witnessed someone urinating off our balcony (room 414). I explained how that would be impossible. It?s obvious I?m a female and my boys had been gone for an hour. Early Wednesday morning at 2:30 am 18th of June, we were evicted. Apparently, someone complained that they saw bear cans being thrown from the balcony of the 17th floor. None of our group was in the room when the alleged beer cans were being thrown. Given only 15 minutes to pack and leave. The hotel kept our money and re-rented our rooms. In SC that's illegal! The security guard said that he believed it was no one from our room because; he had witnessed our entire group down by the pool.

Disappointed but ok

I stayed here with my family (5 of us) and was very disappointed. The hotel is pricey and should have everything in working order which was not the case. Upon check-in we found out by accident that there was a fork stuck in the garbage disposal. That took approx. 1 day to fix. Next we found out that one of the showers was broken in the main bathroom. That meant 5 people had to use 1 bathroom in a 2 bedroom condo. That took 1 1/2 days to fix. We constantly had to remind the front desk that we needed towels. The linen needed to be replaced. Some blankets had repaired holes in them. TV was very small in one bedroom and a large TV in the master bedroom didn't work and was replaced with a smaller tv. On a positive note, the view was nice, all ocean front, except 1 bedroom faced the parking lot. Access to the beach was excellent - connected to the hotel. Kichen area was adequately furnished and supplied as well as living and dining room area. All condos are privately owned so all furnishings are the owners property and not the hotel's responsibility. For all our troubles we were reimbursed $*. I don't know if I would stay again.

Decent location

The hotel is in a great central location. It is a straight shot to Broadway at the Beach. It is not the best location for people that like to go to sleep early as the noise level is pretty high on the strip. We were on the 19th floor and could hear people hollering all night long. The traffic is pretty bad at night. I was a little disappointed that the Concierge was not working the day after I checked in. I had to make reservations for a show on my own. The people at the front desk were very friendly.

The Camelot is a very large hotel with all rooms facing the ocean. We saw the pictures on the internet and decided to book last minute. The price was $800.00 for 7 nights, one bedroom with 2 double beds. This was during March break. When we got to the hotel, our check in was fast and painless. We had a long drive and welcomed the speedy service. The hotel appeared to be an older hotel. The one bedroom suite was very basic. Included in the rooms are a fridge, stove, microwave and TV. Also included was a small table with four chairs, a sofa and love seat. The sofa and love seat could also use a bit of stem cleaning. There was also a small size bathroom which was clean. The room could use a fresh coat of paint and the carpet could use some steam cleaning as well. There is also a lazy river, which was a bit cold to use in March, a wading pool, a large jacuzzi/hot tub and an indoor pool. They were all located right next to the elevator on the 1st floor. The large pool is located outside the building. There are also laundry facilities. Every day the maid came in and cleaned the room and changed the towels. Every floor has their own parking and we were able to park just outside our door. The view was the best!. We could step outside our balcony and just enjoy the wonderful view. We had coffee every morning on the balcony and watch the sunrise and listen to to waves rolling in everyday. There aren't any restaurant situated in the Camelot hotel, but there are many eating places on Ocean Blvd. where one can eat for reasonable prices. We frequently went to Pappas where happy hour was from 4-7pm every day. All in all we had a great time and enjoyed our stay at the Camelot.

Not in the winter!

We chose this specific hotel for the pool and the lazy river. We were very disappointed to see that the only access to them was from the parking lot, since there are no interior hallways, It was around 30 degrees and we definitely didn't want to walk outside to get there. Probably doesn't make a huge difference in the summer, but it's not the best when it's chilly. Also, not a theme hotel like it says it is. The outside is very nice and gives the impression that the hotel is new. Not the case. Our room was somewhat outdated. On the positive side, all rooms are oceanfront and the view is excellent!
