When I first arrived in Fairbanks, this is one of the places that gave me the "Alaskan experience". It is a small resteraunt/pub within walking distance of the university. So, even though it was -45 F, we students can walk there. It gets pretty crowded on Thursdays as they have live blue grass music. Upon walking in, I saw all sorts of different people. I entered into a conversation with an old hippie, a gold prospector, a physics grad student, and a military guy. I never saw so many different people in one place. Fairbanks is small, so a good venue draws all sorts. It is great. Not only does The Dog House have a great atmosphere, they leave plain white paper and crayons at each table. They also have good food. They have pretty large portions. My favorite is the chicken finger meals, 10 dollars, a big salad of mixed greens and veggies, what looks like three chicken breasts sometimes in a tortilla chip batter piled thing and garlic bread and a side. I can never finish.
