Great Mall

This mall is so large you need several days to visit all the stores. It is a shoppers dream and you get the best of both worlds with it being a territory of the U.S. The culture of the islands but the convenience of the U.S. It has many major department stores along with several other chains and completely alive during the holidays as when I visited. I will hopefully be visiting again soon.

This mall was awesome. That 2 star reviewer's gotta realize that not every place in the states is like new york and have huge mall's like this one! I think this mall is a fun place to go especially if you're in a close location like san juan. Also, if you're into DDR, they have a system in their arcade right across from their indoor bowling alley on the third floor!

If you're a tourist, you don't really need to stop here to shop for clothes and accessories. You'll find them cheaper back home on the mainland.

We did visit this place multiple times to eat lunch at their food court. I highly recommend La Parilla. They have great sandwiches. Try the churassco sandwich. Yum! Their steak entrées are pretty good, too! We also went to see a movie at the Caribbean Cinemas located inside the mall. It was cool to watch a movie with Spanish subtitles!

Plaza las Americas

What a delightful mall! It is 3 stories in places, with shops on 2 levels and an eating area on the third. Plaza de Americas is beautifully decorated with hanging sculptures and fountains. The fountains feature sea animals with moving parts.

Macy's and Sears are the two anchor stores. The Macy's is as large as the one in Houston, and Sears is spread over the mall with departments such as hardware in their own separate store. Numerous smaller shops feature European brands, home decor items, candy, etc. One little candy shop sold Puerto Rican coffee, stuffed animals, souvenirs, and the most beautiful desserts I have seen. We were so sorry that we were flying out the next morning--although one of the girls volunteered to carry a chocolate dessert on her lap all the way home! My daughter also found a store that had a large selection of Quiksilver and other boarding brands of clothing.

Eating establishments ranged from fast food to full service restaurants. Most of the full service restaurants were on the third level. The girls didn't want to waste any of our time at the mall eating so we grabbed food at Kentucky Fried on our way out near closing time.

Upon our arrival about 6PM on a Friday night, the parking lot was almost full. This obviously was the place to be. On the flight from St. Maarten to San Juan I spoke with a lady who was going to San Juan to shop. She said Plaza las Americas is THE mall for the whole Caribbean.

A huge mall which is characterized by a glass tower you can see from the highway. Plaza Las Americas is the predominant shopping center in Puerto Rico. According to my brief research into this, J. C. Penney's largest store of its entire chain makes its home here. For mall buffs, it's a must see with over 190 stores, eateries and they boast 100% occupancy for the last 3 or 4 years which is more than we can say here. Their jingle goes "Menos Mal que esta Plaza" which means thank goodness for this mall.

We actually didn't want to come here, wanting to reach the mall at Carolina instead. Chuck needed a computer hookup for his latest gadget for new camera, so we had to find an electronic store. My map reading took us in the completely opposite direction to the Plaza las Americas Mall. Cops were all over the place, and in each parking lot, they had a little tower with an attendant that surveyed the whole area. The anchors at the mall are J. C. Penney's , Sears , and a recently added Macy's . K-Mart is big here as well. We never do get out of the car, because it has taken us quite a few turns and returns to find any kind of mall at all. Office Max is across the street from the mall, so we go there and find what Chuck needs. The people at the cash registers can drive a monk mad with their languidness. Back in the car, we were now looking to get back to the hotel. We apparently cruised Santurce without knowing it. It's crowded, bustling with people, and the lodging goes from elegant to ratty. We get back to Condado by sheer error. That's the delight of getting lost.
