The hotel was great! clean, very nice rooms. Its definitely worth the money. 24 hr pool, business center. except for the part when i wanted some room service to get my room tidied up in the morning, it was almost nonexistent, no one around, no door tag claiming u wanted such service. great location, some nice restaurants and entertaintment you can walk to, and a supermarket right across the street. you will need a car if you want to go to the beaches. would stay again!!!

Simply Underrated!

You know the saying, "Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see?" Well, please believe EVERYTHING you see posted here about the Doubletree Hotel - San Juan. We were simply blown away! When we arrived, we couldn't believe how accurate the pictures and write-ups were for this hotel. The hotel must have just been renovated and has all the latest and greatest upgrades. The hotel was kept in immaculate condition and so were our rooms. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and the location was perfect. It's literally walking distance from the beach and wonderful downtown eateries and shops. The hotel is also across the street from a 24-hour grocery store. So if you're traveling on a budget and don't have a lot to spend on restaurants this is ideal. As for transportation, we opted not to rent a car (based upon previous reviews). We took the taxi to view other sites around the city (i.e. Old San Juan). We don't travel by taxi much but the prices ranged from $14-$20 (if you stay at this hotel, the taxi ride costs $17 - one way). To us, this seemed a little pricey? In San Juan, the taxis have designated prices according to districts or areas (look for the charts on the taxi windows). It's easy to know just about how much you should expect to pay. Now that we know where to go, we might try the rental car thing. We may end up paying a little less next go around. Overall, I cannot think of anything negative to say about this hotel or San Juan. It truly exceeded our expectations.

Wonderful

This hotel is modern and beautiful. The staff are friendly and helpful and it's in a nice area. It was perfect for us for one night prior to our cruise. The tropical pool area is a nice plus.

It was a wonderful long weekend. The DoubleTree was nicer than we expected, the rooms were very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was only three blocks away from the beach. There is a 24/7 super market just across the street, so if you forget something its right there. If your looking to save money and not rent a car, get familiar with the bus routes. It's only 75 cent a bus ride but you have to have coins or else no ride, they don't take bills. The A5 & B21 bus stop right in front of the Hotel so be sure to remember the area or you'll miss your stop especially at night. The C53 bus takes you to the Isla Verde area is where all the resort hotels and casinos are. Cabs are a flat rate of $15-18 so it can add up. The El Yucan rainforest was beautiful, bring shoes for hiking. Old San Juan was also beath taking. The weather was beautiful, food was awesome and the music was great! Be sure to as around about the "Window to the Sea" event on the last Sunday of every month. It's I think near Isla Verde area where all the resort hotel are located. Live jazz/salsa band, booze in the park, it was a nice end to our trip.

better than we thought

remodeled very nice for the price, the Marriott or La Concha would of been nice on the beach but for the price ide stay at Doubletree again, you can walk over to Marriott average walk no free parking over there so walking is the thing to do for the beach.
