- I wanted to see this crazy place where everything is possible, where the local population is almost minute in numbers and where foreigners don't rule. Local customs reign, rules are strict, and experiences are incredible.

- Ten years ago or so, Shaikh Mohammed Al-Maktoum of Dubai stated publicly that he wanted Dubai to become the "new Hong Kong." This was no idle boast. This tiny emirate on the Arabian Gulf coast is fast becoming just that. It has glitz, glamour, and extraordinary panache.

- The United Arab Emirates is a nouveau-riche wonderland, a place of monetary excess. It is the land of towering hotels, indoor ski areas, gigantic malls, and islands shaped like trees. However, that doesn't mean there isn't anything cultural to see--you just have to look.

- Just like to warn people with families and people wanting a decent hotel. I stayed at the ST GEORGE HOTEL which looks so nice in all the brochures etc, but what they don't tell you is that around 6pm every evening the hotel restaurant is taken over by 30/40 Russian prostitutes.
