Nice Hotel - but not as advertised

We love the Westin hotels and we have stayed at their locations internationally. We wanted to go 'all out' and stay at the Westin on the Riverwalk, so we booked a suite. The 'suite' was really just a big room - nothing suite about it. The 'suite' had 2 balconies with barely enough room to sit. It was disappointing to pay 'extra' for a suite when there nothing 'extra' about it.
The refrigerator was just plugged into the corner, and housekeeping had failed to empty it - it still had old coffee cups 1/2 full and other left over food from the previous guest. Also, the previous guest had taken everything that wasn't nailed down in the room. There was no hair dryer, no menu for room service, nothing! It's not the hotel's fault of course, but you would think such a high-class hotel would at least notice this and restock the room for the next guest. It was by far the worst Westin we have stayed out, especially for the money. The beds are so comfortable though. We will stay at a Westin again, just not the Westin on the Riverwalk.
Expectations

Because this was a supposedly "quality" hotel, I made reservations with some basic expectations such as a refrigerator in the room, a standard coffee pot with perhaps some cream and sugar available. The description of the room included these things, however upon arrival I realized the "refrigerator" was actually a wet bar and the coffee pot was a single cup coffee maker with no coffee condiments. If I drank more than one "pot" of this coffee, I would be charged for it. We were disappointed in the room and will not stay at this hotel again.
Great Hotel in a Great Location

Our group of very particular ladies was very pleased with our stay at the Westin. From our arrival to our departure, the staff was most helpful and friendly. The rooms were fine, and the beds VERY comfortable. We enjoyed the attentiveness of Elizabeth at the pool; the cool cloths were refreshing. Everything we wanted to do and see was within walking distance. Stay here!

We got a deal on this hotel because of purchasing a package with airline tickets and a rental car, and it was a good value. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We were upgraded to a room with a Riverwalk view (at no additional cost) just by chatting with the attendant who checked us in - she wanted us to have a good experience on our first visit to San Antonio. And we did! Westin is located centrally, and we walked nearly everywhere. The room was very nice, very clean, and the "heavenly bed" was fabulous! That's the main reason I go to Westin Hotels! My only complaint concerns the extra charges for bottled water and coffee in your room, internet access, etc. There are quite a few extra charges possible if you're not paying attention.

From the time we checked in until we checked out, our stay was wonderful! The front desk was polite and helpful. Housekeeping was friendly and thorough. Our meals at the Caliza were by the Riverwalk and were relaxing. Our server was Jesse and he was the best we have ever had in our travels. The food was delicious and appetizing in appearance. We enjoyed the Latin Afternoon Teas and the entertainment of the guitarists. Jr. in the gift shop was a great help and did very well with his customer service and people skills! On Saturday employees made sure we had bottled water before we went out into the heat. There were several hours between our check out time and our flight and we were glad to have the ability to store our luggage for that time frame. Doors were opened for us and there were always smiles with the service.
