modern quaint but inconsistent service

just came back from our vacation in Montreal. Hotel is right behind Notre Dame Cathedral and conveniently located for the sights and transportation. Road being fixed while we were there and taxi had to drop us off the corner for us to walk a block to the hotel, not too bad since we only had rollerbags. Front desk service was gtreat, housekeeping was not. When we found lacking towels, robes, toiletries, housekeeping delivered but with a lecture, not only once but everytime we called. Complimentary continental breakfast was nice but do spring for the American which includes scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon for only $4 more. The Maitre D was friendly charming and wonderful but not all the waiters were. One was dour and looked pain seating you to a table. The room we had was on the first floor, just terrible as it faces a busy street with restaurants. The ironing board was broken, the drain on the tub came apart, the door pull to the little bedroom in the room also came apart and the sconce one day just fell! While beautifully staged, the room on closer look seems furnished by Ikea. So take a chance if you like.

The hotel was wonderful. Clean, efficient, friendly, helpful, and right in Old Montreal. Definitely would go there again. And there are good restaurants and bistros within easy walking distance.

Would come back

I stayed here with my 12-year-old daughter over Christmas week. Old Montreal is especially beautiful at this time of year and the hotel is down the block from the Notre-Dame Basilica where we attended midnight mass. We experienced highly efficient service the entire week and our suite was the perfect size for two people, affording each of us a separate space. Among the extras we enjoyed were L'Occitane products, the gym and sauna, and access to a computer for checking emails, The kitchenette in our room came in handy on the couple of nights we just could not re-brave the cold for dinner. The staff was helpful in recommending shopping areas (we were here during boxing day sales!) and precise when it came to bus and subway directions. We enjoyed the full breakfast daily, and one wonderful dinner in the hotel's restaurant. I've already recommended the hotel to friends.

Wonderful stay!

Our weekend at the Saint Sulpice was great. The room was more than what we expected. The location was perfect and the staff was very nice and helpful. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Room exceeded expectations

For once, a hotel room described as "superior" actually was. The oversized room was a real treat. The bed was very comfortable, the room impeccably clean, & there were a lot of nice touches like a spa robe, Occitane toiletries, and a windproof umbrella that made a sudden storm no big deal. The staff at the Saint Sulpice are professional, polite, and unobtrusive. There's an air of formality here, but not pretense. I was tickled to see that what appeared to be a glossy black wet-bar counter in my room was actually a two-burner cooktop. There was also a microwave & small fridge. (OK, the placement of the microwave in a high cupboard was a bit quirky for those of us who aren't 6 foot 2, but that's a small quibble.) I love dining out whenever I visit Quebec, but as a solo traveler it's also a treat to fix the occasional supper at "home" after visiting the local markets. For those of you who prefer to leave all cooking to the chefs, enjoy the elegance, quiet, and excellent location of the Saint Sulpice. It's just around the corner from Notre Dame, the superb Centaur Theatre (English language), and the Rue du St-Paul, where you'll find many other must-visit cafes and bakeries. (If you're a fan of the 1930s comic book hero Tintin, be sure to dine at the Tintin-themed Le Petit Moulinsart.) The rate for the Saint Sulpice included a generous & varied continental breakfast. It's fine, especially if you're on a tight budget, but not a must, since there are even better options for breakfast nearby. (Don't miss Olive + Gourmando for its brioche with Valhrona chocolate & superior scones. Also deservedly popular for breakfast, despite being a chain, is Eggspectations.)
