GET READY TO BE NICKLED AND DIMED TO DEATH

Avoid this hotel like the plague. They charge obsene amounts for every little thing. The parking is * a night, the internet was * for three days, the maid stole money off the nightstand, and it's noisy as can be. Very disapointed with this hotel, and I won't be returning.

Noisy

When my wife and I recently stayed overnight, we had to call security twice in the middle of the night because the room next to ours was very noisy. Unfortunately, whatever the security people did (if anything) was totally ineffective, as the noise continued. Needless to say, we did not sleep well.

Pleasant Place to Stay

My husband and I stayed at the Westin St. Francis in February while I was in town for a conference. The hotel is beautiful. Our room was clean, and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. Food in the hotel was extremely expensive, so we ate ate places nearby. There are lots to choose from. (There is a Cheesecake Factory right across the street in the Macy's building - Yum!) The concierge was helpful in pointing us to a local grocery to find lunch items for my husband, who was going on a day trip. Fisherman's Wharf is a quick cab or Trolley ride away. Parking in town can be difficult and very expensive. We took a cab in from the airport (about $50 with tip one way) and then rented a car on a day by day basis nearby when needed. If you have time, watch the hotel channel documentary on the history of the hotel - it was really very good.

What a Shame

The Westin St. Francis in San Francisco has always been a superior hotel and I have stayed there numerous times during the past 30 years. My last stay was approximately 4 years ago and the overall appearence of the property has deteriorated significantly. The staff was helpful and courteous. The physical property was disappointing this trip because of the overall poor condition of the hotel, both in common areas such as the lobby and hallways, as well as, the room itself. Specifically, the common areas were dirty as exemplified by the soiled and worn carpets, dried beverage residue that was very apparent on the walls in the lobby and hallways, and the discarded trash(candy wrappers, etc.) in the elevators. The room had chipped paint, peeling wallpaper, stained and soiled furnishings. The couch and chairs were so dirty I didn't want to sit on them. Additionally, no doorman was present after 10pm on a Saturday night which allowed transients to loiter in front of the main doors and panhandle the guests as they exited the building. This property has a premium price based upon it's former glory, but unless management returns this property to it's traditional 1st class appearence, it is overpriced considering it's very poor cleanliness and extremely questionable security.

Small but decent

The room was small but it's expected for a San Francisco hotel and the bathroom was outdated. However, the location was great for shopping and sightseeing!
