The Dells

We spent two days at the Dells and had a great time. On the day we were going to leave.
My two daughters wanted to ride a coaster before we headed back to Nebraska. So we stopped at Mt.Olympus. First off, you pull into the parking lot and follow the arrows to the back of the parking lot were you are unknowingly stopped and charged $5.00 to park.
After paying, you then can drive around to the front to park. Very sneaky and a rip-off. We then proceeded to the Gate. My wife didn’t want to ride the rollercoaster and my 4 year old wasn’t tall enough. That left me and our 10 year old and our 12 year old to ride the coaster. They had a 3 ride pass for $29.99. Perfect right? Wrong! I could purchase the 3 ride ticket, but the 2 girls had to pay $9.00 each for a spectator pass to get in to use the 3 ride pass with me. By now my wife was mumbling, I could tell they were words I can’t repeat. I looked at my girls disappointed faces and had to tell them we were not going to pay nearly $50 to ride one ride. In my and my families opinion Mt. Olympus is way over priced. There are tons of other places and things to do there that are more reasonably priced.

Review of Coasters

Ok, i'll start from least amount of speed, to the most.

Pegasus: this ride was just over the line of one of the kidde roller coasters. No big drops, very very small, and a short ride. Plus, it bangs you around, causing you to slam into the side of the coaster. I'd go on it if there was a very short line, but if there is a big line, DON"T WAIT!! You'll be sorry.

Cyclops: This was the first coaster ride i went on in the park. I wasn't dissapointed. Not the biggest, not the fastest, but it was a quite injoyible ride. about two small drops, and it was pretty short, but i liked it. Beats Pegasus by a LONG shot.

Zeus: This ride is the first one you are able to go on when you enter the park. I'ts just a small step-up from Cyclops. A little bit longer of a ride, the main drop is a little bigger, etc. I liked this ride. Very fun.

Hades: Here it is. I've saved the best for last. Hades. A huge step-up from Zeus and Cyclops, this ride is great. It has a pretty damn big drop. The drop isn't bad, not as bad as it looks. You go down the drop, and into hell. Almost litarally. The coaster goes underground. Thats right. Plus, it has a camera that snapps a picture of you right before you go underground. Then you do a 90 degree banked turn, meaning you are literally sideways going 75 MPH. This is the fastest, longest, and in my opinion, best ride in the park. If you go to Mt. Olumpous, make sure not to miss out on this one.

(All coasters were great exept for Pegasus)

Variety of Fun At Mt. Olympus

This was a much anticipated stop for the whole family and we waited until halfway through our trip. We didn't go when the grandparents were staying with us because we didn't realize they could have paid $9 for a spectator ticket. This would have let my husband and I ride some big kid rides. Nonetheless, we loved this park and will go back again and again!

Our almost 3 year old was too small to ride anything by herself, but luckily there are quite a few rides she could do with an adult including go-karts, which she LOVED. Our 4 year old was plenty tall enough to ride most of the kiddie rides and besides the go-karts, she fell in love with the kiddie coaster.

As for the waterpark areas, the kids enjoyed the splash area near the far southwest corner of the park, Kiddie City, and the kiddie slides nearby. The cool water area in front of the indoor waterpark, Huck's Lagoon, had slides that were a bit too fast and splashed lots of water in their face. I'd say kids about 6 to 10 would love that one. The girls also loved the indoor water area around the big pirate ship - plenty of bubbling fountains and 2 small slides.

While riding in one of the lazy rivers a park employee took our photo. Considering how horrible the price is usually on those things, paying $15 for two 4X6 photos which turned out cute wasn't too bad at all. While here my husband picked up a pair of inexpensive sunglasses priced pretty much the same as a Walgreens or Wal-mart. The only thing lacking from our perspective at the park was over-priced food and very few souvenirs for the kids - most items are practical such as towels, shirts, etc.

Here's the amazing part - you can't beat the price for this park. The regular price is $42 for anyone 3 years and older for the rides and waterpark. That includes a return trip the second day for free. In our case, our park district (Wauwatosa) sold us tickets for only $29! For the four of us we spent $87 (youngest was free). The ticket also includes a ride on the Ducks but we didn't do this because the kids were just too cranky by the middle of our second day.

Mt. Olympus Theme park

A great, big (and I mean spread out geographically), really fun place to take a family. After being begged for years, my husband and I finally gave in and agreed to a first time trip to the dells with the kids (6 and 10). I chose this place as a major attraction to bring them, owing in large part to the megabucks they must have spent on advertising. They were in every brochure or guide I researched, showing pictures of people having lots of fun, rain or shine, because of their unique status as an indoor/outdoor waterpark with an indoor/outdoor theme park. This is what sold me, as I wasn't sure what the weather would be like in early June, and I didn't know if I wanted to be stuck just shooting down waterslides endlessly at a waterpark-only venue.

That being said, the experience matched the hype. I think the day we spent there was by far the best single day of the whole trip. Being a family of two forty-something couch potatoes and 2 kids, we weren't necessarily looking for ridiculously high, heart attack causing, little kid vomiting slides or rides. The outside waterslides were slightly intimidating, but not so much that it stopped me (couch-potato woman), and I hauled my self up the hills and broke world speed records coming down (clinging to my ten year old daughter of course- I wasn't brave enough to go by myself- she's still blackmailing me over that one...)

The bigger tube slides were a total blast, and my whole family was able to enjoy the lazy rivers, both inside and out. The inside waterpark was a lot more fun than I thought it would be, with a nice lazy river (slightly tricky to get in and out of for us dumpy folk though), and kiddie water park that we had to drag our kids from. The wave pool outside was really cold and really powerful. You HAVE to keep a hand on the little ones, as my 6 year old kept getting sucked out to the deep end. This is probably a good attraction for the older kids and teens.

The outdoor theme park consisted of a lot of fun go cart tracks, some moderate sized roller coasters, and a small, 4 or 5 ride kiddie section. Combined with the water fun, it rounds a day out nicely to ride around on the tracks, then go get wet, then come back. I'm not sure the theme park could stand on its own without the waterparks.

The indoor amusement park is a little like a carnival in a building (shades of Old Chicago?) with moderate non-terrifying, but fun rides.

WARNING! Be prepared to walk.. and I mean WALK! This park is really a combination of several older mom-and-pop go cart and waterslide attractions from past decades, all with parking lots and empty space in between, resulting in large distances between some of the attractions.
Overall, a fun place worth the price.

Mt Olympus Go-Carts and Roller Coaster Park

Overall, this is a very good theme park if you like roller coasters, go-karts, and waterslides. That is all there is. The park was clean and the rides were all working. The park is very spread out. We thought that we had seen it all when we looked to the south and realized the there was another section of the water park we had not been to! They combined three different parks to make one, hence the spread.
