Swimming with Dolphins

There are many places in Cancun where one can swim with dolphins, but we chose Wet 'n' Wild because the dolphins are in huge pens off the beach, not in an aquarium-like pond. This was one of those "lifetime" moments, especially for my daughter. There was a 15-minute orientation talk and then 45 minutes in the sea with the dolphins for $100 a head, not a lot to pay for the memories, or the look on your daughter's face as she is towed along by two dolphins. If you haven't done it, do it the first chance you get.

Wet 'n' Wild Park Nizuc

The Wet 'n' Wild water park, also known as Park Nizuk, is a 10- to 30-minute bus or taxi ride from most hotels or resorts. It's got a Lazy River, about four to five slide/spinning-type activities, a big wave pool, and other activities. The Swim with Dolphins program is good. It’s not cheap, but you get about 30 to 40 minutes with the dolphins. The park does not have much shade, so use lots of sunscreen and redo it several times. Wearing a T-shirt is also a good idea. The food is pretty expensive, and you are not allowed to bring any in (they will check your bags!). You can bring your own deflated inner tube if you want to for the Lazy River. (It's not necessary to have one, but if you rent theirs, it's expensive, and then you have to watch them.)

Swimming iwth the Dolphins

You got to swim with the dolphins. The first had the dolphins do some tricks and then we got in the water with them. Each person in the group got a kiss from two dolphins and they got pushed by a dolphin. You then had an opportunity to swim with the dolphins in an enclosed area. It was great.
