Begijnhof

This area was a little slice of serenity in the middle of chaos, a little grassy area tucked away in the middle of Amsterdam. There is also an old church in this area with beautiful architecture. The best part is that it is free to all!

Begijnhof is a 14th-century courtyard surrounded by houses, where, in the old days, wealthy widows and spinsters lived who served the church, the elderly, and the poor. One of the houses was built in 1420, and there is also a hidden chapel.

It is still inhabited by a single women today and open to visitors from 8am to 11am.
