An April 2005 trip to Amsterdam by Will Widby

This was my first trip to Holland, but, after this week, definitely not my last. The tulips were in full bloom, the people were friendly, and the weather was perfect!

Attraction | "Anne Frank House"

This tour was everything I expected. Inside is the actual diary written by Anne Frank. I went early in the morning, around 9:30am, and there were only a few people there, so it was easy to get in and out. I recommend going early or late to avoid the lines. A must-see while in Amsterdam!

This area was a little slice of serenity in the middle of chaos, a little grassy area tucked away in the middle of Amsterdam. There is also an old church in this area with beautiful architecture. The best part is that it is free to all!

Attraction | "Bus tour to island of Marken"

Marken
This is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam, a quick 30-minute bus ride (Bus 111 from Centraal Station) to the island town of Marken. This location has many old wooden houses, and many of the locals still dress in traditional Holland attire.

Attraction | "Windmills of the Zaans Shans River"

Windmill
This was by far my favorite part of the trip. It's a quick 15-minute ride on the train from Amsterdam Centraal Station to the Koog-Zaandijk train stop or a quick 5-minute walk to the beautiful windmills of the Zaans Shans river. It's a great place to see authentic Holland windmills with a few tourist shops for souvenirs and a great pancake breakfast restaurant.
