extra expenses!!!!

The breakfasts are expense. Make sure that it's included in your room rate, and bring a copy of your receipt with you to Amsterdam stating that breakfast is included in your rate. I didn't and I had to pay about 20 euros for breakfast! Be aware that some hotels charge a "city tax" in Amsterdam ( a few euros per night) payable upon checking out of the hotel. I've never seen this in other Northern European cities.

Very nice hotel, but not great deal

Hotel is very nice -- clean, spacious rooms, comfortable bed, friendly service. Location is great, right downtown. Very nice plus is that the fitness room is much better than most hotels, not just a couple of sad pieces of low-quality equipment. Internet service is irritatingly expensive at 20 euro/day and McDonalds is the only place we found in the area with Wi-Fi available (and even there it isn't free, unlike most others). We use Marriott points so the stay was free, but for the rest of the trip we stayed at the Park Hotel -- at least as nice if not better, better location, and a lot less money.

Renaissance Hotel a wonderful experience.

My wife and I stayed here 6-10-09 through 6-18-09. The renovations have been completed, and this hotel is beautiful. Our room was well appointed, exceptionally clean, and had a wonderful view of the church dome. The front desk staff was very helpful and efficient, and the concierge service was too. The hotel was immaculately clean, and our room was the same each night. The hotel is in an excellent location, just a short walk from Central Station (about 5 minutes), and very close to the City Center. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to Amsterdam.

Bad choice for peace and quiet

Renovation on the hotel made it noisy and dusty during the day. I stayed in December, 2008, and renovation was supposed to be completed months before. Front staff not overly friendly, and the breakfast was overpriced at 24.50 Euros. It does have a great location for shopping and visiting the Anne Frank House.
