- Bali is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world due to its splendid cuisine, friendly people, and exotic culture.

- This is an extreme trip, staying in an exclusive hill resort one day, and stay at the rock-bottom price guest house on the other. Both ways, Bali is full of fun and sun.

- For years I dreamed of a trip to Bali…an island paradise complete with visions of the movie South Pacific and the song Bali Hai. I pictured Bali as an island of tranquil, breathtaking beauty. I was not disappointed.

- Bali-how can you describe it? The sights, the smells, the culture--it has a unique feeling all its own. The minute you step off the plane, you get chills.. because you have landed on the Isle of Smiles.

- Ruined by tourism? Culturally exploited? The purists might say YES, but Bali continues to attract backpackers, billionaires and bright-eyed babyboomers in droves with a heady mix of authentic culture and unplundered scenic wonders. All swaying to the convenient, cheap and alluring sounds of Tourism-Asian-Style.

- Until now, I have largely ignored the bus tours portion of our trip , although they are necessary for an overview of the island. For history buffs, you'll get quite a bit if the English is good enough.

- When your plane touches down in Bali, you are in Tuban. Ngurah Rai International Airport is located there, and so are a host of hotels, several eateries, and two major shopping centers: Kuta Centre and Kuta Square . And if you have kids, the island’s Waterbom is here too
