Bali - Never been - GO

A March 2007 trip to Bali by jonbarb709

If you have never gone, you need to go, if you have been, you definitely need to go back. Bali, besides one of the best travel bargains, it's got everything, good weather, lots to see and do (scuba, snorkel, museums, temples, shopping) and great dining.

The first thing, I just noticed that I never wrote up our trip to Bali two years ago. It was such a great trip, that what made us come back this year. Two years ago a tour, this time on our own, with some help from Floressa Tours. We started out in Sanur. We stayed at the Puri Santrian for five nights, then on to Ubud for four nights and then to Candidasa for six nights. It was great, and we are ready to go back.

Quick Tips:

In March and that is when we went two years ago and also this year, it's hot, be prepared - drink lots of water and wear a hat. You definitely do not have to dress up in Bali, so don't take lots of clothes. The food is great, the prices are low and there is lots to do.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking is about the best way to get around. Instead of a taxi, try and talk to the drivers to make a deal for the day or the amount of time you want to go someplace. Also there are small vans, that go up and down the street, if you can figure out the times and destinations, it's the best way to travel and definitely the cheapest.

Hotel | "Puri Santrian Hotel"

The Puri Santrian Hotel, is right on the beach, a great pool, two restaurants, and a SPA. Service is excellent, prices are more than reasonable. It also has great security. Rooms were with a/c, and some had showers and some had shower and tub. Clean and if you needed anything extra the maids were more than helpful.

Ambience to the max. Service, food, and prices are excellent. Small Jazz combo on some nights. We ate there before (two years ago) and could not wait to get back. The steak is outstanding.

Aston Legend VillasBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

This is a restaurant that is in the Aston Legend Villas right next to the Mezzanine Restaurant at the Puri Santrian Hotel. It's new from the last time we were there, and it's outstanding. You can sit right by the pool or be inside, the furniture is just beautiful. The service, food, and prices are excellent. Definitely worth a stop. It's all new, clean, and it sparkles.

Cinta Grill & InnBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Cinta Grill & Inn"

Cinta is fairly new to Ubud, it's an open air restaurant, which gives it a lot of atmosphere and ambience. Food and drinks are excellent, and they have one of the best happy hours - Mojitos 2 for 1. Unfortunately, that's all they have on happy hour, but if you like Mojitos, and we do, it's a great bargain. It's a great place to stop, service is really great.

Restaurant

This is one of the nicest restaurants in Ubud. The view from inside is fantastic - you just got to see it. The prices, service, and food are all great. A must stop, even if it's just to take a picture. It's too the left of the Temple as you face the Temple in the center of town.

Naughty NurisBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Definitely off the beaten path - its right across the street from the Neka Museum - which is a must stop, so stop at the Neka and lunch or early dinner at Naughty Nuris. Ribs are their specialty, as well as fish and local food. Just a nice little place. Great food, service, and prices.

Restaurant

The best description would be "Coffee House/Deli/Dessert." A little bit of everything. Great ambience, food, and prices, and service was excellent. It's a great place to stop for breakfast, coffee, snack, or whatever. It is located right down from the Market Place.

Restaurant

It doesn't look like much from the outside, except the dessert counter is right there in front. But, when you go inside, the restaurant keeps going back and back and back, and you are surrounded by plants, trees, and flowers. They have a great atmosphere, food, service, and prices were excellent. We really enjoyed this place.

The local food place we ate at. It's also a cooking school. The food was great, not too spicy, but spicy. The service was great, the prices were really reasonable. It's nicely decorated and if you want some local food, this is the place to stop.
