sams town caters to locals and is proud of that. There are decent palces to eat at the hotel, and it is across the street from a walmart. The pool area needed tending. The bar was never open, and there were towels and ashtrays everywhere. The hot tub was having "issues", so we never used it. The maid service was excellent. It's on boulder highway away from the strip. There are shuttles that you can take to the strip and beyond that run very timely. It is a good value and the casino is very nice.
I'd go again

Not too bad. The best part was the cheap and huge breakfast and dinner buffets. There were a variety of things to do including a laser show, bowling, a movie theater, and of course gambling!! My only real problem was that they don't have a free shuttle to and from the airport- you have to take a cab.
A nice clean hotel.

My husband and I stayed here with my daughter and son in law. The rooms were clean, comfortable, spacious and a very good deal for the money. The animated anilmal show in the courtyard was wonderful, yet crowded. The shops are nice and prices are not to outrageous. The food could definently have been better, but you can't exect much from an inexpensive buffet. We will always stay here. It is the best deal in town.
This use to be such a great value. No More.

I have been going to Sam's Town 2 times a year for many years, even before the big remodel. I always thought the value to be outstanding, especially for weekends. Over the past few years that value has diminished. I've actually been quoted as high as $260 per night, which considering the Boluder Highway location is outragious. I used to be able to get casino rates as part of their slot club but have had to fight for it the past 4 times I've gone, even though the host admitted I was gambling more than before.
I mean, let's be honest, the rooms are small, the beds hard and uncomfortable, and the cleanliness is average at best. What made this a great value were the rates in comparision to hotels on the strip or downtown.
However, some good points: The resaurants overall are good. Fellini's (Italian) and Willy & Jose's (Mexican) are above average, with Fellini's being in the Mystic Falls area. Just plan your meal when the water show is NOT going to be on. VERY loud. Billy Bob's (Steak) used to be one of the best but the food quality has dropped a little. Still, great portions. The buffet is huge with lots of options. The cafe isn't bad, just not open 24 hours any more.
The slots use to be some of the loosest in LV, which was another reason it was a great value. But since the remodel has really tighten up. I don't mind losing, just let me play for awhile.
Again, it was a great value. Nowadays there are many other options with better rates in more convenient locations. I'm part of a group that goes twice a year and we all agree. Time to consider different options when we go this September, 2008.
TOO FAR AWAY FROM THE STRIP

The hotel is fine if you do not want to deal with the strip. The shuttle is fine, but it takes awhile to get to the strip and back .... Wasting too much time with waiting at the bus stop.
