The Yellow River is as important a culture cradle to the Chinese as the Red River to the Vietnamese. Along it is their capital city in the few hundreds of years: Hanoi - a startling mixture of Vietnamese, French-Colonial, and Communist cities, as well as a backpacker’s centre as well.

Though we left on the 23rd of March for Vietnam, I was already there thirty days in advance. I was at the library three times a week doing research, as I knew we had a lot of ground to cover and only three weeks to do it.

Going to Vietnam as an American, is an entirely different experience than doing so if you're not. Although it isn't the favorite place I've visited, I would have to say it was the most eye opening travel experience I've had to date.
