Villas El Rancho Beach Resort
A disappointing place stay

We enjoyed a clean beach, polite/respectful vendors, a friendly staff, and were delighted at how easy it was to travel to & from the downtown area while staying at El Rancho. Sunsets were wonderful! The landscaping is beautiful and the ocean within steps. Mornings were the best!
The beds were HARD, we had ants in both bathrooms, the kitchen was sparsely equipped, the cupboards and stove greasy, there was no dishwasher or dishwashing materials, we did not have a microwave for the first half of our stay, we had no heat or air conditioning in the room (and at times would have used them), TV was geared to Spanish speaking folks with no world news available, the pool was beautiful but not heated and not used, the hot tubs were luke-warm and used by everyone so the water was dingy and sandy and bubbly with bleach-smelling chemicals, and finally El Rancho would not pick us up from the airport when we arrived.
We were disappointed, but made the best of our accommodations. The staff were always friendly and that helped to overcome some of the shortfalls, but the beds were awful!

Great place, stayed oceanfront, really was oceanfront, about 20 steps to beach.
Restauant okay but not great.
If you stayed here and did not like it, you have a problem and wouldn't like it anywhere.
TIP: Go downtown to the OLAS ALTAS STEAKHOUSE (next to the shrimp bucket) for a wonderful steak.
5 Days in Mazatlan

We were looking for a relaxing, mini-getaway that was easy, inexpensive and low-key. We found it in Mazatlan and at El Rancho. The property is a little older and the years are starting to show, but the rooms are clean and spacious. We had some issues (needing to get the A/C turned on, lighting the pilots of the stove, unclogging a shower, etc.), but the front desk was very helpful and took care of our requests immediately. Even though there were just two of us, we liked that the villa had two bedrooms and two bathrooms. And, we liked the "feel" of two floors. It felt more like a home. Having a full kitchen was helpful - we ate breakfast in every day. The hotel is a bit far from the "heart" of things, but the buses and pulmonias are very accessible, easy to use, and cheap! We had no problem getting into the city whenever we wanted - about 15 minutes to the Golden Zone and 30 minutes to downtown. Although there isn't a lot around in the area of the hotel, and at meal times this was a bit frustrating , it did make our experience at the beach extra-special. Except for the other guests at El Rancho, it was like having a private beach all to ourselves. El Rancho has a restaurant, but we really weren't impressed. It was more expensive than it needed to be, there weren't vegetarian options, and it wasn't all that good. We walked up the beach a little bit to a few other restaurants, and usually just bussed into town for good eating options. Overall, El Rancho is a good value and we had a relaxing vacation.
We simply loved it!

Ive been at El Rancho with my wife and kids.
I spent wonderful time with them there.
The service on the beach is excellent.
The villas are HUGE!!! i was expecting to get a normal suite with 2 bedtoom but .. what a sorprise it's a full condo. I guess that about the 1100 sq ft it's true.. i felt like at home.. my satellite tv, my living room, dining room with my wife and kids. My son George enjoyed so much our stay. We rent a Poolside villa.. and it has been just perfect because i just that to open my living room door (which is actually a wonderful window) and then we jump in the water. I falled inlove with my wife again.. very romantic. And that about the priveate beach is also true..
aah the pool is warmed up.. during the nights is delicious to get a drink and stay until late.
Thanks villas El Rancho!!
