Rich Coast Diving

I had a great day diving with Rich Coast in Playa del Coco. They showed me how good the diving can be in Costa Rica: if you haven’t been there, you should try it!

The moment you step into the shop you get a feeling of openness: friendly people who offered me a cup of coffee and sat down to have a chat about where I had been traveling and diving before. They also were helpful, recommending a nice hotel and some restaurants.

The next day we met at the shop in the morning, to have another cup of coffee and a chat with the other divers. We had a nice walk to the beach, where a small panga was already waiting to take us to the boat: a trimaran called the Tahonga. Because it’s a trimaran, it slides through the waves so easily that you don’t even feel the waves. The divemasters were already on the boat, and they’d set up our gear for us. (I rented their equipment: it was in good condition.) The entire staff was really friendly, but professional as well.

There seem to be numerous dive sites around Coco, and because I wanted to see manta’s, they picked the best spot. But the manta’s, weren’t alone: we saw spotted eagle rays, white tip reef sharks, seahorses, turtles, moray eels, and much more. (There also seem to be whales and whale sharks around, but I wasn’t that lucky to see them as well.) All the time you are surrounded by big schools of fish, which you can sometimes even touch: it’s a great view. Also, on the boat ride out, we had three dolphins accompanying the boat!

After we got back, the tea was ready: it’s always nice to have a place to relax and enjoy a drink after diving. The Dutch owners are really nice as well, and they even took me and some other divers out for dinner.
I had a great time diving with Rich Coast, and I’d like to thank the entire staff. Everyone should try them out, so if you are planning on going to Costa Rica, pay Rich Coast a visit!

Rich Coast diving has a new pet. A pizote (coatis) so cute!!

Besides diving, the people at rich coast have a warm heart for animals. They took care of six puppies that they found in the trash, and found good homes for them. Now they have four kittens put in the maintenance room by their mommy, who is just a stray cat. Rich Coast will take care of them of course. Their final addition is the pizote. Just take a look at the picture! If these people are so good to the animals, just imagine how they are under water. Their dive masters can show you all kinds of marine life, but remember look but don't touch! Have fun.
