Mount Vitoshe has some very nice senery. In wintertime it is great for skiing and hiking. In summertime it is very nice to escape the city and take some fresh air. On the hill there is a nice forest. Several cable lifts can bring you up and just to walk down by yourself. Also several tracks are there, but I did not try some of them myself. But a must to go there when you are around

Mountain Vitosha

It's very exiting, the forest is very much untouched (as it can be in a ex-communist country), but for the real expirience of mountain-walking, try it, you will not regret (use of cable-lifts is not so good)!

Near Sofia, this mountain gives great views of the surrounding areas, and the city itself looks a lot better from a distance! We took a bus from Ovcha Kupel bus station, to the bottom of the mountain, and then a chair lift goes from half-way up the hill to the top. There are some really spectacular views, and I recommend this whole-heartedly.
