We spent 10 days in Lagos in April 2008 - this was the first time ever we have stayed in the same place (town and hotel) for such a length of time. We hired a car, though, and made a few trips in the area.

Long sandy beaches with rock formations carved over time by the wind and water can be found all over Portugal's south coast. This is one of the most touristed areas in Portugal but worth a visit for its natural beauty.

The Algarve is, at its best, a haven of sunshine, clean Atlantic beaches, relaxed life, and golf. At its worst, it is noisy, beer-stained, and contaminated with cheap concrete. Pick the right area (inland, essentially) and this will be a great holiday.
