Kempinski Hotel in Budapest, Hungary

My daughter and I went on a trip with my husband who is a pilot. This is the hotel his airline puts the crew in. We only spent a night there but I've stayed in enough hotels to be able to rate the Kempinski. The hotel room was spacious and very clean. We asked for a cot and it was brought up immediately. Also we had 2 small problems with the bathroom and they were taken care of within an hour or two. The bed, including the cot, were extremely comfortable. I'm a little OCD when it comes to using the bed but I had no qualms whatsoever due to the cleaniless of the room. And the comforters were so plush and soft. I could almost fall asleep thinking of them. The location was great. My daughter and I took a walk while my husband took a nap and I felt completely safe. The Danube was 2 or 3 blocks away and we were near one of the bridges so we could easily walk across to the Buda side, which we did. We could walk to shopping and restaurants and also a Indoor Food Market which was very interesting. Unfortunately we missed the Christmas Market by a day or two, but the start of it would have been only a few minutes walk from the hotel. My husband has used the gym a number of times and says it is adequate, the equipment is new but there are only a couple of treadmills, stationary bikes and a stairmaster. But he said he loves the sauna because it is clean, updated and very relaxing. We did not eat at the restaurant as there are many choices relatively close by.

Kempinski Hotel Corvinus

A special relaxing atmosphere, luxurious rooms, and elegant restaurants await you at this flashy five-star hotel right in the center of town. We found this a place to enjoy the ambience and service of a luxury hotel, experience its unique hospitality and expect to find state-of-the-art technology and equipment.

The 335 rooms in the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus are generously sized and reflect the hotel's discriminating style. The elegant flair of the fixtures and fittings and the work of some 330 staff made us feel at home throughout your stay.

The rooms are outstanding. All feature three direct-dial telephones, fax/PC connections, safe, individually controlled air-conditioning, high-tech infotainment system, large desk with office tools, and newspapers and magazines. There was a spacious bathroom with underfloor heating, and a separate shower cubicle and bath together with a hairdryer, make-up mirror, scales, body-care items, bathrobe, and slippers.

Without any doubt, the buffet breakfast at this hotel was the best we experienced in 2 weeks of travel. It was served in the smart Bistro Jardin on the ground floor where they also serve lunch and dinner. Even further up-market is the fine dining Ristorante Giardino. The Lobby Lounge is an ideal place to meet friends at teatime and we can recommend the Corvinus Bar for a glass of champagne before your evening begins.

One night we went with a group of friends to the Kempi Brauhaus - the only authentic Bavarian restaurant in Budapest. You actually go outside the hotel to enter it. With German trained cooks and friendly service staff, this is the place for authentic Bavarian fare. It was great fun to drink foaming beer, and tuck into Leberkäse, white sausages with mustard, calf liver, meatballs in cabbage, veal knuckle, Bavarian sausage salad and a host of other traditional recipes. The Brauhaus has a rustic feel but its sophisticated facilities including all tables with high speed internet connection, an excellent sound system and a large TV.

Standard rooms at the hotel are from € 260 to 399, and they go up from here.

Kempinski Hotel Corvinus

Right next door to Le Meridien is another world class accommodation: the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus. Opened in 1992 and currently being refurbished, the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus is popular with business travelers and high end leisure travelers including a number of celebrities.

The lobby is slightly off key, but the interior design of the rooms and hallways is pleasant and inviting. All rooms have beautiful art deco accents and either a aqua and cream or black and gold color scheme. Over 1000 pieces of Hungarian art is in the hotel's collection; a temporary exhibit featuring the work of Zoltan Hus was prominently displayed during my visit.

The fitness center is quite comprehensive, though like many luxury hotels admission is not included in the price of your room. Prices are fairly high to access their gym, coed (and nude) sauna, massage areas, and small swimming pool with resistance current.

Excellent meeting rooms and facilities make this a great choice for premium business gatherings or incentive travel. A full service restaurant, classy pub, and late night bar provide guests with a number of dining and entertainment options within the complex.

The Kempinski Hotel Corvinus..where you sleep on a cloud

The employees of Malev airlines did all they could to make the flight from New York''s JFK airport to Budapest as comfortable as possible. But, despite their efforts, I still arrived in beautiful Budapest with jet lag. The most courteous driver who met me at the airport, relatively easy traffic, and the excitement of searing this dramatic city, helped to temporarily alleviate my jet lag. But when I walked into my room at the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus and saw the fluffy duvet and on the bed, jet lag—and an overwhelming desire to sleep—resurfaced.

When traveling from west to east, it''s always a difficult decision to know how to beat this time trap that saps travelers of their energy. Usually, I just fight it and instantly try to get in sync with the local time, but I knew that my itinerary called for some late-night events, so I split the difference and rested a little. Actually, in this town so well known for its thermal baths, I took what I now refer to as the Kempinski Corvinus Cure to get me over my jet leg and into a productive work mode. A light snack, a hot, steamy shower in a bathroom suite designed to pamper, and having my tired body completely enveloped by a cloud-like downy-soft duvet for two hours made a new woman out of me. I was ready to go.

Actually, the minute you walk into the modern elegant setting of the Kepinski Corvinus, in the heart of the business district, the jet lag cure starts. Friendly employees are there to see that your needs are taken care of, whether it’s their job or not. No wonder that, for the fourth year in a row, readers of Business Traveller have voted the 5-star Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest as one of the top 3 Best Business Hotels in Eastern Europe. This year, they were in second place.

The breakfast buffet, included in the cost of the rooms, is a bountiful feast where making decisions (and trying not to overeat) is a challenge. Should you have an omelet made to order or perhaps enjoy freshly baked rolls and pastries and an assortment of farm-fresh cheeses? The smoked salmon always found it’s way to my plate, as did the fresh fruit.

The service at breakfast was particularly impressive. It was fun to sit there and watch as everyone went about his or her job, frequently helping a fellow employee.

While the Business Center employees (particularly Katalin Dombo at World Wings Travel Agency) were very helpful, I really enjoyed the convenience of the Kempinski’s Internet Corner, just off the lobby. It was fast, efficient and very handy. And, after I finished my Internet work, I could relax in the lobby and enjoy live music. After all, this is Hungary, whose musical contributions to the world are legendary.
