Westin, a Quality Hotel Gouges on the Little Things

The Westin San Francisco Market Street is a quality hotel from what was the luxury Argent Hotel.

The room was on the small side, with a large soft, comfortable bed, LCD TV, radio, coffeemaker, hair dryer. These high end rate rooms typically gouge wherever, whenever they can and do. The shower has two shower heads, unusual but nice spray of two heads. Also, I noticed that warm or hot water is always available within a couple of seconds, another nice touch. The room itself is quite nice with a desktop and office chair, but no other chairs for any guests. Electrical power plugs are along near the top edge of the desktop area, a nice touch. Nice view out the window, though the windows need cleaning.

Here's where the gouging kicks in. Refrigerator extra charge, high speed internet $14.95 a day, phone use $1 for the first 15 minutes, and continues to add up the longer you're on the line, including toll free 800 calls.

There's a health facility on the premises. Dogs under 40 pounds are allowed after signing a waiver and be responsible for excessive damage or cleaning required.

The location is great, right in downtown, close to BART, MUNI, Financial Disstrict, Contemporary Jewish Museum, Museum of Modern Art, AMC Loews Metreon 16.

There was no newspaper left by the door for two days, we inquired at the front desk, mentioned we prefered the local paper The Chronicle. The next few days, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and The Chronicle appeared except on the day of checkout, no newspaper again.

They will hold your luggage, but will not be liable stated on the claim check.

A large grocery store at Howard and 6th Streets is open till 9pm. Or a convenience store 7-11 up on Market St and turn left is open 24 hours.
