Not fancy, but clean and central, central, central!

I stayed here for 10 days in January of 2007. The rooms were clean & comfortable and the staff very courteous and helpful. This hotel has been around for many years and enlarged piecemeal over that time. To management's credit, renovations are underway as parts of the place are showing their age. Its location is stellar, being right in the center of the Business District and convenient to everything downtown. If you don't mind staying at a place with some "character" this hotel is hard to beat. Prices are very reasonable.

Avoid this hotel at all costs!

If you truly enjoy staying in a dump that reminds you of the Ghetto, then this is your place. It is dirty, smelly, and just down right terrible. I wouldn't leave my dog there, let alone myself. Take my advice, pay the extra and stay at a nice hotel.

"I have been connected with a National association for the Catholic church and have meetings every year, with additional Conferences etc. I have chosen to stay here for over ten years. Now I have the added reason to stay as my son lives in Melbourne and finds it convenient to meet with me after work and have a coffee and chat. We have also on occasion used the dining facilities in the evening. I am about to stay again on the 10th & 11th July and am looking forward to the usual friendly greeting."

Victoria Hotel

Victoria Hotel is part of the Accor worldwide chain. We were able to walk in and book a room for their lowest rate of AUD85 for two twin beds. It was a non-smoking room with a shared shower. A private shower room would have been AUD115, but none were available.

This hotel uses a metal key for entry to the room and the toilet/shower. Only one key is issued, and it is recommended to turn in your key when going out. There is only a single shower stall in the facility, but fortunately it wasn't very busy, so there wasn't any queue when I needed to take a shower.

There's a coin-operated laundry, Internet café, rooftop gym, pool, sauna and spa, restaurant and bar, and foreign exchange and safety deposit boxes.

The room was rather small, with a minifridge, electric kettle, vanity sink, and no desktop workspace.

Of the two twin beds, mine was softer than the other, but even I had trouble sleeping. It has a great central location. The receptionist, Alice, who checked us in, was very nice and had a pleasant personality.
