Great locale, charming hotel

If you're the type of traveller that complains about nearby homeless, potential street/construction noise or a bit of wear & tear, this may not be your kind of place. If you're looking for a hotel with character, super helpful & friendly staff and great location, this place is for you. One block from BART and cable cars, colorful decor, basic breakfast, cute 8-seat in-house movie theater, close to fabulous breakfast at Cafe Mason, all together good deal for the money. Rooms are very small so may not be fitting if you plan on spending any time there.

Great little place to stay near Union Square

The hotel is just a few blocks from Union Square. The area is not the best, but I think that is true of most of the downtown hotels. We had valet service, so we did not have to walk around the area at night, and could drive or take the trolley just about anywhere we wanted to go. The service was excellent, the staff very friendly and helpful. The theme of movies made in San Francisco was clever (we stayed in the Barbary Coast room.) Movies were shown every night in a cute little theatre on the first floor. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and quiet, considering we faced a semi-busy street. It was worth the price, and I would stay there again.

Excellent Location

I was surprised to find the Hotel Bijou was central to everything we needed. It was right in the Union Square area and a minute's walk from BART and MUNI. Union Square was very nice and the starting point for the cable car headed to Fisherman's Wharf, plus there was a ton of shopping there with all the big name stores. The hotel's theme was very cool with all of the movie theater style and artwork. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. Our room was on the 4th floor on the Eddy Street side. Be warned if you stay on this side and are on a lower floor, it is LOUD! There were 5-8 drunk homeless guys that were hanging out below our room every day all day long and could be heard swearing and screaming at all hours of the night. We actually didn't mind, as we were up late ourselves. When we closed the window, it made a big difference. The hotel provides ear plugs though, if it bothers you. Next time I will request a room on the Mason Street side, maybe even higher up than the 4th floor for some more quiet. The room included an iron/ironing board, hair dryer, and plenty of towels for two people. The bathroom was big and our room was just roomy enough for three to relax in. We requested two twin beds and were lucky to get one queen and one twin in our room, which allowed for a friend to crash with us one night. I will stay here again.

I had a conference at the Moscone Center. It was a short walk. I walked everywhere ballpark, fishermans wharf (take the cable car back), telegragh hill and even the GG bridge, but then I like walking. If you want a quite room make sure to ask the front desk for an inner room. This area is not for country bumpkins.

This is a terrific location and a very good value. The front desk staff was knowledgeable, friendly, very helpful. Continental breakfast was a plus. Very clean rooms. Bedding could be improved by using fitted sheets, our bottom sheets came undone every night. Great variety of restaurants very close by. Definitely would stay there again.
