St. Beatus-Hohlen Caves
St. Beatus Caves according to legend were a dragon's lair until Beatus, an Irish missionary, vanquished the beast. Now the caves are open to the public and can be reached by bus, boat, car or by foot. I choose the latter and boy did I get a treat....a visually stunning hike (it was too beautiful for words). Once at the caves, tours start each half hour in a variety of languages. You explore caves to a depth of 3300 feet and see remarkable cascading waterfalls, stalagtites and stalagmites. Other Beatus related displays are also on hand. A cave museum and restaurant are available as well. I thought that the caves were a change from the typical Swiss adventure and I really enjoyed the experience. The admission was 14SF=9USD.
