Las Rocas

I'm a confirmed border rat who never pays more than $10 to sleep in Mexico. But Las Rocas is something very special. It's a luxuious, beautiful while Greek Islands-type resort built right on the surf-pounded rocks, just North of Ensenada. This place is, frankly, the bomb. Beautiful rooms with jacuzzis, full service spa, pool by the sea, great bars and restaurants. And you can slip into Ensenada at night to party.

While some spas seem to be all about health and reclaiming dissapating youth, or just being rich, Las Rocas is about ROMANCE. It's a perfect place for a wedding, a honeymoon, or a seduction. And it's not all that expensive by U.S. standards, especially for a place only an hour from San Diego, four hours from Los Angeles. Okay, high season for a penthouse is $269 a night, but that is actually a PENTHOUSE, with all the amenities that implies. (Except a scantily clad 'Pet', you have to handle that part yourself). But you can also get a regular room in low season for around $65 a night, which you could pay for a fleabag motel in San Francisco.

You can walk right out of your spa bath onto the terrace for a lobster dinner, watching the sun set over the throbbing surf and the spray off the rocks, then slip into the pool or jacuzzi while the stars come out. This place is too much...and really not that much.
