Fairmont Kea Lani

This was a spectacular 22-acre Mediterranean-style all-suite hotel. Rooms are 840 square feet, with a full entertainment center and sofa bed in the living area. Oversized bathrooms include robes, separate shower and full tub, and twin pedestal sinks and vanity mirrors with access from living area and master bedroom. The balcony includes four chairs, a table with a lounge chair, and access from living area and master bedroom. Parking is free and there is no resort fee. Cushioned lounge chairs surround the pool and cabanas are available to reserve in advance at an additional cost. Villas are like deluxe condo accommodations, which include a private plunge pool and rental car. Villas are tastefully decorated with tile in the hallway, textured carpet in bedrooms, and granite countertop in kitchen. The dining area seats six and the living area includes a sofa bed. Villas include a gourmet grill on the patio. Multilevel villas include huge walk-in closets. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the Wailea and Makena areas. There are two pools at this property, one designated for adults only. However, the swim-up bar is located in the family pool. Families can request cribs, high chairs, and even baby monitors at no extra cost. One villa and 15 suites are handicap-accessible. You will receive a unique lei greeting and fresh towel service upon arrival. The hotel offers complimentary limo service within Wailea, no reservations required, but it’s always helpful to arrange in advance. The fitness studio is open 24 hours.

This is the youngest hotel in Wailea, very distinct from the other properties. VHS and DVD rentals are available at The Fairmont Store. Caffe Ciao Cafe is like an upscale grocery store (similar to Lunardi's or Cosentino's) or trattoria with gourmet sandwiches, salads, and baked goods available for a custom picnic basket to take with you on your excursions. Celebrities who have stayed here include Britney Spears, Jason Alexander, and Gary Sinise.

Kea Lani Hotel

On the trip over, I began a conversation with a nice couple who frequent Maui. They asked where we were staying and I told them the Fairmont Kea Lani. When their mouths dropped and they said it was the best place on the island I knew I was in for a treat. I was not disappointed. When the car pulled up to the complimentary valet we were presented with a lei, a hot towel, a drink and a bellhop to show us around our room. The design of this beautiful hotel looks more like something you would see on the Greek isles with its high arches and dome shaped roof. Somehow though it works sitting there on the Wailea beach and the open floor plan makes the most of its location.

The rooms are very understated and the colors are muted, which is nice when you can open the curtains and let the view speak for itself. For the best effect, open all of the doors and let the ocean breeze fill your room. The bathrooms are very large since every room is a suite and everything is marble. They have garden tubs and a large stand up shower. The rooms also have a small kitchenette area with a microwave and refrigerator.

The Kea Lani has several pools, one set aside for children. There are also many beach activities and you can rent boogie boards or get surf lessons. The staff here is what you would expect for paying top dollar but so often find you do not get. But at the Kea Lani, every dollar is well spent, and everyone from the maid staff, valet drivers, and people at the check-in desk greet the guests with a smile. If you visit the Fairmont store you must say hello to Maria. She is the cashier and by the second time we had seen her she already knew our names. She remembers everyone which was amazing to us, considering how many people she meets in a day. Little things like that are what makes your stay special and makes a person keep coming back year after year.

Best Things Nearby:
Nice town of Kihei, Polo and Wailea beaches, town of Lahaina, Kanapali beach, and the Marriot luau

Best Things About the Resort:
It is elegant and very relaxing, with lots of places to just sit and lie out in the sun on the large lawn area. The staff is very attentive.

Resort Experience:
The Kea Lani is probably the best resort I have ever stayed in. They are very accommodating. The bell and wait staff are always going the extra mile, giving you directions, suggestions, etc.

The rooms are spacious, all very crisp and white, and there are large bathrooms. All are suites, with plenty of space for all your clothes.

The resort has several nice shops and three restaurants. The food is very expensive, but that is pretty much everywhere in Maui. The pool is great for the family, and there is an adult pool. There is a nice pool bar and bar staff, and you can swim up to the bar to enjoy a drink or a snack. We hated to leave since it was so relaxing. As for the lighting of the torches, kids love that.

There is lots of light around the resort. The pool slide closes at 5pm or so, but sometimes a little later. It is delightful for families or a romantic trip. They had a kid’s club. My girls loved it. The sunsets are to die for. I can't wait to go back.

How does one describe "perfect"? At check-in, we were greeted with a friendly aloha and an orchid lei for me and a green-leaf lei for my husband (it's meaning was "strength") and a nice, cold glass of passion, guava, orange juice with an orchid in it. Everyone was smiling, and the rooms were all suites and were impeccable.

The bedroom was spacious, with ample storage space. The living room had a wraparound sofa that opened into a queen-sized bed, if needed. There were two televisions, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. The kitchen area had a stove, refrigerator, and coffeemaker with free coffee and herbal teas daily. The bathroom had a wonderful deep tub with all-herbal bath products and a loofah, and the marble double sinks were wonderful! Also, the large shower area was separate from the bathtub, which was very convenient.

Anything and everything we needed or wanted as available to us; all we had to do was make a phone call to the main desk, and whatever we asked for was brought to us in minutes, whether it be an extra pillow, blanket, towels, etc. We were truly treated like royalty! We hope to return very soon!
