This was our first trip to Mexico and we want to go back as soon as possible. This resort is awesome. Everything is very clean and well kept. Each morning, hotel staff rakes the beach to eliminate any sea-weed brought in from the night before. The maids were phenomenal and each day our bed was made, towels replaced, and they even lined up our shoes against the wall. Each day there was different ?towel-art? left on our bed, and one day we even had rose petals spread across the blanket! The food was good (not great). There are 4 restaurants which require reservations (Japanese, Mexican, Italian, and a grill). Make your reservations immediately upon your arrival. We ate at both the Japanese and Mexican and they were much better than the buffets. The buffets offer everything from Mexican cuisine to pizza and pasta. The breakfast buffet was our favorite. This resort is actually 2 resorts in 1: Catalonia Riviera Maya & Catalonia Yukatan. You can use the pools and restaurants at each resort. The pool at the Yukatan resort stays open later. The hotel has a free shuttle that takes you to Playa del Carmen, take advantage. You can also take a water taxi over to Cozumel?well worth the trip. We met several people at the resort who stay year after year. They provided us with tons of info as to bars and restaurants at the resort, also about the shuttle.

Wow! A great place to visit

We just completed a 4 night at the Catalonia Riveiera Mayan, and it was fabulus at this price. The food was very good, drinks plentiful and the service was excellent! The place was remarkably clean and extremely well kept. This was my third cancun area, trip, and my wifes, sixth; and we are in total agreement, this is THE PLACE. I am not sure what the negative reviewers prior to this experienced, but those reviewers must have had thier nose to high in the air to breath in the wonder ocean air at this resort. You can't beat it in this mid priced all inclusive. We will be back.

Enjoyed it. Would stay again

We were on a dive trip booked by our local dive shop, so our transfers and our check-in were handled by the dive shop in Mexico. First room had an impossible to fix door lock. When we finally got in, we realized the beds were way too small. We upgraded to a mini-suite and were very pleased with the amenities and the service. Food was good, not great, plentiful. Specialty restaurants were good. Pools and grounds were kept immaculately clean.

first visit; will definitely return

We had a great time with our 17 yr old. The food was good and varied at the buffet. We especially enjoyed the Mexican and Japanese restaurants. The staff was always very friendly and helpful (except maybe at check-in). The rooms at one portion of the resort (the Yucatan Beach), which is connected to the Catalonia Riviera Maya, were not being used during our stay (swine flu effect?). However, the pools and outdoor bars there were open, and offered a nice, less crowded alternative to the other busier pools. Loved the "chill out bar" on the beach in the evenings. The extras that I would highly suggest include the dolphin swim (book on-line) and the parasail. Also the deep-tissue massage at the resort spa was very nice. There were a couple of minor glitches: Check-in was chaotic and slow on a Sunday. Also, our room's AC broke down on the third night of our stay. We dealt with one muggy night, but as soon as we reported it they did move us into a very nice deluxe room for the remainder of the week.

GREAT RESORT!!!!

My husband and I had a fabulous time!!! We decided to upgrade our room to a superior delux, and I'm glad we did. The decor and quality of the room was much nicer than the standard room. The beach was very nice, but I would recommend water shoes if you're going to go out in the water. It was rocky, great for snorkeling, but not so great for just swimming around! I would totally recommend the japanese restaurant, by far the best one!! The hotel has a free shuttle that will take you to playa del carmen for the day. We hopped on the ferry and went to Cozumel and did some snorkeling, it was fantastic!!! If you take the ferry, get a one way ticket. There are two ferry companies that run. If you book a round trip ticket, you may have to wait a couple of hours for the ferry on the way back, when the other company may be traveling at a more convenient time for you. Overall, best vacation I've had in a while....I didn't want to come back!!!!
