Description: Decided to pop over to LAX on the new Dreamliner (Boeing 787) . Flew in on Saturday morning, January 12th and departed on the red eye at 12:30 AM on Monday the 14th so I booked this location with my Hyatt points for two full nights (even though I wouldn't need it for the whole second night before catching the red eye home). It was of particular interest for me on this trip because I didn't feel like staying in my usual West Hollywood hotel due to the short visit. Plus, I have never stayed in a Hyatt Place property and since this location was only a month old I thought it would be nice. And it was!!
Check-in was great, no issues! The same Gallery Host who operated check-in also made my mocha for me at their little bar area. Was interesting to see the use of the staff in various places around the hotel but it all seemed to work nicely.
I got to my corner room on the 5th floor and was pleasantly surprised how wonderful the room was decorated and laid out. The rooms aren't huge but PLENTY big for two people no more! The pull out sofa bed would allow for probably 4 people but it would be a tight squeeze. For one it's perfect! The bed was very comfortable, I loved the modern shower area and the nice desk with fridge, coffee maker, etc. One thing (and I noticed this in another review)...the water pressure was pretty bad up on the 5th floor. Also, it took FOREVER for hot water to show up and ended up turning the shower on 5 minutes before I got in to ensure warm water (which seems like a waste of water for a state concerned about such things). Anyway, it wasn't a show stopper (or in this case a "shower" stopper)! :-)
Since I had a very quick visit I had made my mind up to just stay in the hotel the entire day and a half I was in LA. The hotel has a really great breakfast buffet in the morning with hot egg and meat sandwiches, cereals (hot and cold) bagels, toast, very nice fruit, yogurts, etc. There wasn't a ton of food but more than what you'd need for a nice breakfast. I ate two of the breakfast sandwiches and they were pretty spectacular!
The hotel sells really nice espresso drinks, ready made sandwiches, bottled water, soda's, etc. I stocked up on a few baked goods, water and some drinks for my stay! They also offer a menu of various foods you can order and then pickup near the front desk. There is no room service.
I decided to take a walk to the nearest grocery store which took me 20 minutes. But it was an easy walk and pretty much a straight shot from the hotel. While I was up that way I went to Walgreen's and also Five Guys Hamburger's!
As for the location, I didn't really like it that much but I knew what I was getting into before I arrived. It was no biggy. I loved being near LAX but there really isn't a lot around. Like the other reviews indicate the hotel is across the street from the Mariposa Metro Line Stop in case you're wondering. But I didn't take use Metro this trip. So it's not like you can't get anywhere but as far as walking to places from here, this location isn't ideal for that.
My only complaint is that I called downstairs in the middle of the night (I was up late) to ask a couple questions and no one answered the phone for nearly 20 minutes. Then when the guy answered the phone he argued with me that he was there the entire time. It was irritating and he obviously was trying to cover up the fact that he had stepped away. My thought was that it was a good thing I wasn't having an emergency because there would have been no coverage.
Other than that the hotel is great! I would stay at this location again but only if it was a quick trip, nothing more than a day or two.
Room Tip: Rooms in the back of the hotel have a view of incoming aircraft coming into LAX without the noise.
