Hollidaysburg Canal Basin Park

Located at the convergence of the old Juniata Canal and Allegheny Portage Railroad, the park is a landscaped site of two canal basins and a connecting lock, part of the Allegheny Ridge State Heritage Park.

There is a lovely playground and garden for children to enjoy, as well as adults. A huge wooden "canal boat" with portholes has been built and is great for kids to climb over and to get an idea of how a canal worked -- all that is missing are the mules!

The old restored lock-keepers house is a Victorian-style estate that houses the artifacts and historical documents that comprise the museum. There is an interesting interactive exhibit that depicts local history. Inside the museum is a beautiful mural painted by local artist Michael Allison, depicting the history of the canal boats and the region. Excellent overlooks of the entire area can be found at nearby Chimney Rocks Park.
