Insa-dong Antique district

Between the Anguk and Chonggak subway stations, near T'apkol Park, lies the long street of Insa-dong. On this street and on dozens of branching alleys are many traditional style buildings filled with art galleries, antique shops, crafts shops, and restaurants. On Sundays the street is closed to traffic and there are often craft demonstrations and music performances. You could easily drop a fortune here, but there are also some great places to buy more reasonable gifts that don't look like they just came off a production line. These include masks, tea sets, chopstick sets, and paper products.

If you get tired of walking, there are some tea shops, taverns, eateries, and coffee shops with a nice atmosphere, especially if you wander a little off the main street.

I thought this was by far the nicest shopping area in Seoul- some things may be over-priced but you can bargain prices down and you get the feeling that the stuff is good quality, hand made merchandise- where as other markets I went to seemed to stock more 'production line' looking goods.

You could spend hours wandering up and down this street and down all the little side alleys. It's a nice way to spend a day.
