B&B's can be a gamble, but I got lucky this time! Brooke and Perry Peterson, owners of the popular Beazley House (the very first B&B in Napa), expanded their bed-and-breakfast services last year with the Daughter’s Inn. Guests of the Daughter’s Inn stay in a tastefully decorated c. 1900 Queen Anne shingle-style mansion, just a short distance from downtown Napa. I had the pleasure of staying in the Sweetpea (the flower of my birth month!) Room, the smallest room in the establishment. Good things can come in small packages, as they say, for my room was decorated with Frette-like soft linens, pinks and greens, antique wood furniture, fireplace, and the best part – a big bathroom with a large rectangular jacuzzi and a standing shower. The clear plastic Gilchrist and Soames travel pack of toiletries from the same company, as well as some with customized Daughter’s Inn products, and warm bathrobes achieve a pampered effect. Although the room includes a coffeemaker and CD/radio player, guests generally must create their own in-room entertainment - or visit the nearby shops and restaurants for entertainment. The comfy common room downstairs features (no TV!) a stereo system, a puzzle, a refrigerator (with free sodas), board games, lots of books, and the daily newspaper.
Another highlight of the Daughter’s Inn, of course, is food. Each morning, a different gourmet entrée is served, such as bacon brioche, along with a homemade-bread-like orange-cranberry nut bread. Fruit, yogurt, juice/coffee/tea, oatmeal, and cold cereals round out the meal. On weekends, guests enjoy wine and cheese in the parlor or the charming blooming garden area (looks like the gardener has been putting in a lot of overtime!). Fresh lemonade, cookies, trail mix (I admit to picking out mostly M&Ms), coffee/tea/hot chocolate, and sherry to enjoy at all times of the day.
This B&B definitely met my expectations (which I consider relatively high), so I can easily recommend it to you!
