Description: My eye fell on the Dakota hotel for one reason: price. 2 weeks in a hotel in San Francisco is a pricey affair, but fortunately the Dakota hotel offered a special rate for longer stays. Especially considering the location it seemed like a good choice.
Location
Location is probably the biggest plus of the Dakota Hotel. The hotel is located at 606 Post Street, about two blocks from Union Square. The street also houses some eateries (including a very good Thai restaurant) and a small supermarket for groceries. Located just in a good part of San Francisco, a few blocks upwards you end up in the Tenderloin, an area where your evening rather not want to be. But you walk towards the centre, you're within 10 minutes in the heart of the city!
General impression
The hotel itself looks a little rickety, though now perhaps it looks slightly better because men were doing construction work what meant noise in the morning. Luckily I had to get up early anyway so it didn’t really bother me. The lobby is small and there are two well-worn office chairs where you can sit behind computers with more coal-fired, so old they were. Well, free internet is always welcome.
From the lobby you can use the stairs or elevator to the floor where you should be. The staircase seems to include far the best choice, because the "bird-cage" elevator seems straight from a horror movie to be picked. The rattles, the sighs and supports, and hopefully will take you to where you need, but sometimes stubbornly remains the elevator where he is. Alas, that also has its charm.
Service
The staff was very friendly, although the owner was quite hard when I said that I wanted to check in for the cheaper internet rate. Fortunately he eventually tacked, and I was treated very well continue.
Room
The room itself seemed to differ, the colours were rather flat and the furniture looked pretty old-fashioned. In the room there was a small but comfortable bed, a refrigerator and a microwave. The TV seemed to come from the year zero, but anyway I was not planning my evenings on staying . The room was fine for one person.
The bathroom, which also pretty clean, had a really old-fashioned bathtub, as you really only see in movies like "Psycho" look, ditto with shower. Fair is fair: for me it did fine, but if you're a little luxury to set or simply fear failure, you better take another hotel.
Facilities
The hotel offers wireless Internet charges in the room. For me still incomprehensible how a hotel like this have one available, and some five star hotels where I have since about eight this still does not offer! Breakfast is served in the Adelaide hostel by the same owner, which in a few minutes walk away. This breakfast is very simple, with bread, milk, cornflakes and the known weak American coffee.
Here you can also cook some or register for dinner, but I myself have not used. The street itself are plenty of good restaurants and San Francisco itself offers much in the culinary field! The lounge in Adelaide hostel, where you also have access to, is a great place just to chill and meet people. This lounge and in fact the whole hostel is also a more modern decor than Dakota hotel!
Setting
Well what can I say? It is San Francisco, a vibrant city, this hotel is in it! There is a huge choice of activities and attractions. Go to Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, Marin County, shopping in Union Square, take the cable car or look around in Chinatown-the list is endless!
Price
Rooms start at about $ 50 per night twisted cheap given the excellent location and the fact that your own room, bathroom and have breakfast.
