I do not like to be negative, but some experiences can be really frustrating. I was visiting the island as representative of a non-profit organization, people had been advised, but no activities had been set up for my visit, no one was waiting for me at the airport.

When people think of travelling to the Carribbean, Haiti rarely if ever makes the list of destinations. As the poorest country in the western hemisphere and third poorest on earth, this tiny nation doesn't do much in the way of tourism. Apart from a small island on the north coast owned by a cruise line, there are no white sandy beaches or lush resorts. But if your idea of travel involves a desire to make a difference and improve life for those less fortunate than yourself, if you want a trip that can change not only the lives of others but also your own, look no further than Haiti.
