Uptown Minneapolis is teeming with hip and trendy Minneapolitans. Every local knows that, but you don’t have to be a sassy hipster to enjoy this shopping hub. Uptown has a little something for everyone, from stay-at-home moms to college kids.

Lake Mille Lacs is the second-largest lake in Minnesota. It's an excellent fishing lake and what I consider the start of Northern Minnesota. Our family comes here each year to try our luck.

There is an old joke that Minnesota only has two seasons, winter and the 4th of July. However brief that window of summer may be, it is glorious. Summer in Minnesota is a bit of heaven on earth!

Summer was here and the kids were heading up to the wilds of Minnesota to start Japanese language camp in Bemidji, Minnesota. Papa went with and had a grand time of peace and quiet in the north woods.

We were heading to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving with family. However, getting to the Badger State required us to go through Minneapolis, my hometown. We spent some quality time in Minneapolis on both ends of our trip. Even in winter it's good to come home to Minnesota.

I grew up an hour south of here, frequently visiting both relatives and attractions. Recently, I returned to Minneapolis for my sister's wedding, taking time to explore new and familiar places with my husband and introducing our 18 month old to some of my childhood favorites.

If you enjoy watching ships, crave beautiful coastal scenery, being active outdoors year round, and don't mind brisk weather, visit Duluth. I spent summers here as a child, but recently revisited with my husband en route to Minnesota's North Shore for a hiking vacation. It's still wonderful.
