It's been four years since I graduated from Birmingham University, so I was looking forward to going back. Not a lot had changed, but a few bars and restaurants are worth commenting on.

Brindleyplace’s 17 acres of commercial and residential development is one of the city’s unparalleled success stories. It is a model for developments throughout Europe and is well worth a visit if you’re in the area for a show, a meal, a few drinks, or just to torment fish.

Five friends and I rented a self-piloted barge and cruised the canals around Birmingham for 5 days. We moored by and ate in pubs every night.
