The Monterey Peninsula has long been one of our favorite destinations. It has natural beauty and very pleasant dining opportunities. Just 2 hours south of San Francisco, it is an ideal place to break away, especially for those who can do so during the off-season.

I lived in Fort Ord when I was a child. I have grand memories of the beautiful California coastline, and running the Big Sur Marathon along one of the most famous highways in the United States, Hwy 1, was a soulful experience that felt to me like coming home.

Since my husband and I are both SCUBA divers, we have stayed in Monterey many-many times. We live in Northern California and frequently take our students to Monterey for checkout dives. It is also a wonderful place for non-divers to enjoy romantic weekends.
