I flew into Cairns from Sydney and met up with some friends who are staying here. I spent a few days enjoying the city, the Atherton Tablelands (amazing), and the Barrier Reef (very amazing), then headed south.

I had been told Cairns was a dreary town where men who had not seen a woman in a week congregated at the weekend. Wrong. Yes, we met a few Crocodile Dundee types, but we also dined well and felt safe.
