Orchha, beside the Betwa River, hardly seems a modern town. Dominated by its fort and palaces, its temples and the sixteen medieval cenotaphs that line the riverbank, this is a charming town of cobbled streets, approached through an old gateway that took us from the 21st century into the 16th.

Orchha is a village 20km south of Jhansi by the Betwa River. It is surrounded by ruined temples, there are great walks, and the river, if in spate, has wonderful bathing pools. There is an easy-going atmosphere and it's a great place to escape the frenzy of urban India.

Picturesque Orchha, a small village in the middle of nowhere, abandoned and somewhat neglected, set on an island on a bend in the Betwa river. The perfect spot for a beautiful and a quiet day (or two).
