My experiences in Lapland went beyond anything I could have imagined. I went on this trip to photograph Finland in winter, and Lapland was the ultimate winter getaway. My days in Lapland can be characterized as rugged, cold, peaceful, beautiful and exciting.

Lapland is a captivating place for everyone, but especially at Christmastime. My grandchildren loved it. Visit Santa park -- it is a must, with its post office and while you’re there send yourself a Christmas post card for next year.

January is the coldest month of the year in Lapland. A bunch of us took part in a playful snow sculpting competition at Levitunturi, beyond the polar circle. We stayed at a cabin at hotel Hullu Poro, heating its sauna twice a day... One day of sculpting in temperatures below 30C, the other day learning to snowboard at Levi in milder frost - unforgettable!
